Ive seen this video and I posted it here a few months back. Its a really cruel video. That same guy also has videos of Oscars and other various big fish being tortured.

this topic has been beaten to death already in 700 other threads.

is feeding live food mean?
do fish have feelings?
is meat murder?

ugh.
I doubt that meat is murder, I thought that it was food but this topic will probably be brought up many more times just like other topics are brought back from time to time.Feeding your fish in as close a manner as they feed themselves in the wilds is quite different from torturing another fish for entertainment.

So it was maybe a little bit cruel...
And? Really, I wish people would just learn to ignore things they don't like, and move on. The bottom line is, you're not going to change what happened by complaining about it. If you want to go about things in a more constructive way, go ahead, but complaining or ranting does not help anything.
But the clip was posted for feedback and discussion which is what this whole thing is supposed to be about.I understand that folks stand by their opinions and sometimes get heated but that is how different viewpoints are shared.

bingo! live food is live food. why is a small goldfish ok but not a GT? a fish is a fish, who are we to decide which one should get eaten? the more expensive and prettier one? this rationalization doesnt make any sense to me. if you choose to feed live foods, who the hell cares what kind of fish it is :screwy:

Agree 100 percent.

ok guys let me clear it out that this video was not posted to argue on whether live food should be fed to the fishes or not. and i would also say that giving goldfish or any other animal as feeders is cruel to me.there is no difference between a gt or a mouse or a goldfish but what makes the difference is that they all breathe and have the right to live.i never even thought there would be 34 posts on this one seriously. i have seen people feed aros and crazy things to the pirhanas but i will say it again i dint start this thread to argue on whether fishes should be fed live or not.
and by having these discussions and posting such clips can help some new fish keepers who join this forum to refrain from doing the same and nothing else. all of us here are well educated on this forum on what to feed and what not to but it might help the newbies

all i can say is i have a gt and it aint going in my p's tank

I actually agree with a lot of this: it's no more or less ethical to feed a cichlid to another fish as it is to feed a goldfish to a another fish. I've used everything from convicts to Saratherodon to Cryptoheros as feeders.

Feeding a small fish to a big fish is a relatively quick death.

Being torn apart by a school of pirahna's is not a quick death....and - from the video - appeared to result in quite a bit of suffering by the fish being eaten.
