The great filter is ahead, unless we scale back technological development, which I don't see happening.
Or it could very well be behind us.
I believe in evolution and going off that the first life that came here came from somewhere else. We haven’t found any life yet so I’d say that they couldn’t evolve to the point we did so we already passed it.

We have moved from a post-industrialized society to a technological one- no, there is only going forward, because this age will pass as well.

I just got out of school and here yall are making me do work finding out what a tuba-something is.
With problems caused by technology such as climate change, etc., I honestly don't see how a civilization could become a type 2 civilization on the Kardashev scale.
Hopefully it will pass before irreparable damage is done. Also, that's kind of my point, there is no going back, which I feel somewhat supports the theory of technology being the great filter, because we create problems with our technology, but instead of stopping use of said technology, we look for solutions to the problem using more technology, which is counterintuitive and will lead to additional problems stemming from said technology.
My nightmare would be if humans were to 'merge' with machines, as predicted by Kurzweil. He may see it as some "utopian" future, but that is false, because we would lose all fundamental control over the environment we chose to live in. We would not be able to chose to take a break from technology, because we would literally live with out minds trapped inside of technology. AI scares me, but I feel like while true human-level artificial intellegence is logically possible, I feel like it is unlikely that we will develop it any time soon.

has mentioned, the move in the younger generation is toward sustainability in food production "organics", less carbon usage that is damaging the environment ( many do not even own vehicles but utilize mass transportation in urban areas), and working for companies that are ethically motivated toward "productive" relations between producers and consumers. This type of thinking will modify the damage that a technological age ( in the hands of the not so ethical) can do. Technology is "bad" when elites and the wealthy win and benefit on the backs of the majority that only see the loss of jobs and means of survival.

Not to get into a whole different direct here lol. But climate change has been happening for millions of years in a cycle long before man ever proliferated the earth. How could you state that its 100% human technology related?
