For a Parachromis lover I can be really bad at ID'ing the Freddy's and Lois's.

An LFS had this one labeled as a "black jaguar". I'm pretty sure this is a loiselli, but I had to get it anyway on the off chance it would turn out to be a freddy. Head and body shape seem more managuense like (and yes, I KNOW it's not a jag, lol), but coloration says loiselli. What do you guys think?

He's already competing with all the big boys for food. That's a good sign for being so small. Also, for those that follow my jibber jabber, I'm going to check out some Parachromis "la ceiba" this weekend from a local club member. They are supposed to be mostly males, but maybe I can squeeze another pair in my tank if I'm lucky. I already moved the RT and sold my grammodes to make room for more Parachromis in anticipation. :naughty:

Shouldn't you be playing Darkfall?

Just kidding. Nice fish.

keep updating him..love to see him as he matures..

that's a freddy, got one just like it!!

yep i agree with freddy. i had 2 lois and there markings were different from the freddy.

It does look more freddy than lois. and probably is a freddy. Any new pics with it less stressed?

It doesnt have the silver lining on the top part

As much as I'd like to agree with you and as much as I'd like for thisnew one to be a freddy, I really don't think it is. It looks exactly like my current female loiselli did at that size two years ago. I'll give you a couple of photos to illustrate.

Newest "loiselli"...

My 100% confirmed female loiselli two years ago right after going in the tank from the shop...

The same loiselli as the second photo a month ago (the smaller one on the bottom)...

Notice also the red coloration in the fins in the first pic. This is also present in the female loiselli in the third pic. It takes a little longer for new additions to get comfortable in my tank due to the tankmates. New additions can be a little overwhelmed by all the big boys. I wouldn't classify this as "stressed", it just takes them a little longer to feel "at home". In about three months, it'll be much clearer as to this new fish's ID (still loiselli I think).
