Congratulations on the job young Rtc/tsn Rtc/tsn .

What is the tax situation for 16 year olds in the US? Here in the UK we have a "personal allowance", an amount of money you can earn before you pay any tax at all. Currently it is £12500. A penny over that amount will push you into the 20% bracket.
Didn’t go over anything in yesterday’s orientation but I go back tomorrow for day 2 and I’ll ask about it but my mom said something like since I’m a minor they can’t take the taxes from me but it doesn’t get paid with the rest of the check and that at the end of the year or something I get a check with the tax money. I’m not entirely sure, typing that was confusing for me lol also thank you for the congratulations and I love how you said “young” lol idk why but it made me think of Yoda saying young padawan

I'm not sure I'm fully on board with the reference to Yoda, young man. I can understand the comparison you make between us in reference to intelligence and wisdom, but from an aesthetic viewpoint, hmm, my ears aren't that big!

the pay checks are taxed like an adult based on state and federal rates. Social Security is also taken out which won’t be refunded. He will have to file a tax form next year in order to get the federal and state taxes in full back. I’m sure there’s a maximum yearly earnings he could get back but with his part time job I don’t think he will reach it in one year

Definitely won’t reach that amount in the year as I can only work 5 hours a day 5 days a week legally as a minor and current making 8.50/hr, it’s not bad income at all for my age at a part time job and it’s definitely a good start. I looked up last night what that minimum yearly earners wear in Ohio but don’t remember the number other than it was a good amount

So, if you worked 52 weeks a year at 5 days per week for 5 hours a day only, at $8.50 an hour, that would be a little over $11000 per year. Under UK tax law, it would all be yours!!!

It would be interesting to know how much of it would be yours in the US.

not sure how much It would be in Ohio but it said In California for a minor at that income you would make 800 something a month after taxes so after all that fun math you’d have my yearly income after taxes ( I think) assuming I were In California anyway but I’m in Ohio and was up almost all night so my brain isn’t really in the spot to think completely lol. Orientation today’s gonna be fun since I’m freaking tired

I think it's around $10k here in the US. Cant say for all the states. The next bracket is taxed 12% so that extra 1000 would just be taken, youd actually be minus a couple bucks.

I got done with training today and on the floor working. I’m work Kroger pick up which is clicklist orders and I’m one of they guys that pull the cart out and load your car. I get off at 7 today and it’s a living hell running back and forth like this in almost 90° weather. My favorite room back there is the walk in cooler ?
