I Got A RTCxTSN Catfish!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
TL is currently working on a bigger pond which he hopes to have finished in Spring. I'm sure he will measure his fish before they go in there and if we ask kindly, he'll be happy to tell us :)

As for big hybrids, Cliffs was only 1,5 years old at death iirc? It was huge, probably near 3'.

Wish he would. Would really help if we had more info on this specie. Once I've got my tank up, I will be getting a hybrid (1123g) which should give more data to the hobby and maybe, we can get more information on the hybrid out there

I have found out that they take a little while to adjust to the tank. for the first 3 days mine did not eat. also, instead of chasing down feeders like a red tail catfish, mine is more of an ambush predator... he waits until a fish goes by then chomps it... (he has only eaten 3 feeder minnows so far...)

I heard somewhere they take awhile to acclimate.

Yhh, I've seen that with my achara catfish and when I helped with my finds hybrid.

that they take awhile to acclimate?

I have dealt with about 8-10 hybrids and have not noticed them to stand out as far as acclimatization and feeding habits. Average fish. Bell curve.

Achara is distinctly, ~100-1000x less predatory than even RTC, not to speak of the voracious predator TSN.

I'm sure TL will. Seems like a very friendly guy. I just don't know if he does not want to risk getting stubbed and/or losing his measuring tub to a spine puncture. Catfish that size exert humungous power and have been known to seriously injure and kill men, fishermen.

As for Cliff's hybrid, he got it at 1.5' already and IIRC we don't know his exact age.

well its been 4 days and mine is yet to eat a single bite of food. have fed him so much and so many types of food i had to do a 80% water change this morning to get it out of the water!

FF, I think you know quite well 4 days is literally nothing, especially since he came healthy and well fed (unless that's a bloat or a clog). We are not talking a baby aro at 1.5". When it will have been 4 weeks, then I'd worry just a bit.

I don't mean live feeders lol. I meant eating in general. I don't do feeders. The hybrid I've experienced, at least for the first 4-5days, didn't like us in front of the tank whilst he ate
