Well fine, I will either way :p

These are a few of riverfishguy's guns (click for bigger):

First 4 are SKS, he wants to know if anyone can guess the 5th (hint - all are 7.62x39):

Misc:

very nice thanks for sharing! :D

ok heres some markings on mine, sorry for the terrible pictures

1. the marking on the right side of stock, looks alot like a half circle with a 'P'

2. bad picture of what are 3 diamonds and one square, with weird symbols in them, on left side. there are 2 diamonds with numbers in same location on the right.

3. a funny looking stamp ontop of the bolt carrier, and a few ontop of the sight.

there are MANY more that are too small for my camera, ill try to get some more pictures, the more I inspect the more stamps i find... right below the rear sight there are a whole bunch too.

Magic the marking on the stock is a manufacture proof mark and common on Tulas. it is actually a cyrillic F and it it was complete would look like an O with a line through it with a line on the bottom. The other markings are typical tula proof marks...

thanks, thats kinda what i thought, my cousin was claiming that some markings on mine could be unusual, but he doesn't really know what he is talking about. aside from matching numbers is there anything i should look for that means more rarity/value?

The fact it is all matching, Not refurbished, not bubba'd, in excellent condition, and all original (well except for your sling which appears East German) you are already up there in this being a rather rare gun all on it's own. I'm not sure what you paid for it.. but it is worth $500 (average) to as high as $600.. Guns in this condition are not easy to come by and are getting rarer and more desirable each year.

Poly....You said the rifle wasn't a refurb? As far as im aware all the polished bolt/bayonet guns were refurbed for importation into the US. (we americans tend to like shiny of course.) Also some of the proof marks on magic's gun appear somewhat lightly sanded....though that could just be poor stamping. Just curious to see what makes you think its not refurbed since im always lookin out for more info on the little details like that.

Btw, the rifle below the SKS's in the pics shadowbass posted is an egyptian rashid. (for anybody that was curious) Low production semi prototype around 6k made.

you got it all right poly, except i believe it is a refurb, there is a kinda box looking thing with a 1 or \ in it can't tell, which as far as i know means its refurb. that makes me feel better about what i paid, $425. also the fact that it is in CA i think makes the price better

being a refurb (i think) is that still a good deal? (as you guys can probably tell i do not know much about the sks, it is my first). :D

where? the Refurb mark could be either on the stock or on the Receiver cover.. For wood it would be a square with a diagonal line for metal a diamond and a line or square with a horizontal line. A small Box or diamond with a 1 BTW could be an accuracy mark if it is on the metal near the rear sight. The same on the wood is unknown but appears to be common.

I'll post some pics of these refurb marks...when I get a chance..

Actually most refurb Russian SKS are easy to ID as they do not have shiny bolts (they are painted, blued or parkerized) most (not all) have laminated stocks and they all have clear markings and indication they are refurbished. Clear indications such as blued electro stenciled parts, forced match parts and painted metal are dead give aways.. This gun appears to have none of these. Proof marks especially on stocks where never struck hard so often are partial. Refurb stocks of the birch variety are easily spotted as they will have a strengthening pin in the wrist of the stock. The fact the Tula star, date and Serial on this gun is very clear and deep shows it was not sanded down. Most wear seems to be normal use for this gun.

Magic you could clarify this best.. run you finger across the markings on the receiver cover...Are they raised slightly On the edges???

BTW what is the serial series on your rashid? And in case you did not see it... you also have a very nice AG42..Mosin M-27/28 is damn nice also (which is yours)... :)

hmm some seem a bit raised, some smooth, by no means very raised up, i would probably go with more or less smooth to generally describe them all.
