Thanks Frank. My SO hates the eartheater. I love it! I want some other vieja variety fish but we are going have our hands full with all those midas.

No its my SO (significant other) hates the eartheater. Unfortunately it died for an unknown reason this past weekend. I'm pretty bummed out about it.

We got 9 midas in there. Not my idea. Tank is 240 gal. I told SO we will be calling this "murder tank" in the future. We will sell what we need to as they get bigger.

I am sorry to hear that - unfortunately, you will likely only have 1 Midas left after a few months......they kill each other fighting for dominance and 1st picks on food - it's just what they do. They may kill others in the process, but there is a lucky MFK member out there w/ a tank full of Amphs that seem to be ok for now......can't imagine how many he has seen die in the process of getting them to share space though

I've always wondered if my GT could live with a syn in like a 125 or 180. Syn's and GT's are probably my favorite american cichlids, at least in the top ten. I already have a GT approaching seven inches so I'm wondering if a small syn growing up with it would keep the syn from killing it later on. Would hate to lose my GT its an amazing fish.

My Synspilum is a good 2" bigger than my GT and gets owned when it all comes down to it. Female GTs are MUCH nastier than the males, IME....and I supposed that's evolution....put a little 6" female next to a 12" male and what happens when he wants to mate and she doesn't?

A mean little 6" fish that's tough as nails and intimidating enough to make fish 2x her size kick rocks.

you are correct....Synspilum = Redhead, Quetzal, Fire-faced

Synspilum is no longer correct. Melanura is the new name.

Edit: My bad, I see some already gave this same info.
