I got me some new fancy lights!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is indeed the Power Glo 18,000k

I think I am going to go with Black Egg Crate. It should recess so you wont even see it unless you look down at it. I have a cover that goes around the base of the tank and stand, just currently not on there. Will post more pics when the cover is installed. As I stated I have a bunch of barbs so they barely jump, just swim all over the place.

The driftwood is very nice, it is many pieces put together that are intertangled. I would have liked to get it a few inches higher to get it to the surface, but I cant get it to stay that way easily. No biggy I think it looks great.

I plan to fill the tank in pretty well with plants on the side.. and maybe a small grass in the center.. not sure yet.

ok i thought so. plants do best with lighting below 10,000k, but i think youll be ok since the tank is lightly planted. if you decide to go full blown planted, you may need a new bulb :)

another pic...

huh? below 10,000?!?! hahahaha ok. So what one do you recommend? I can run to the store and change it since i just got it today.

yeah the 18,000 kelvin bulb is the wrong spectrum for freshwater plants. the ones you would want would be either the Aqua Glo (10,000k) or the Life Glo (6,700k).

but, you can give it a try and see how it works with the powerglo since most folks dont like the color of the more yellow bulbs

ok back from the LFS... lol I think they hate me... I walked in and they were like umm you again?!?! lol

The new light is the Life-Glo and is 54W and 6700K.

So that is what I want correct?

Ok so this has been an adventure..but anyone who wants to see the difference in Life-Glo and Power-Glo here it is!

nice! i personally love the look of lighting below 10,000k on tanks, it looks so much more natural. i used to love the powerglos until i tried the others

ha ha i definately like the difference.

This is just one big experiment for me. Lol.

I do not really want to go CO2. But i think my many schools of barbs will do the trick of CO2. I also use flourish excel daily in the tank, and new plants get root tabs if they need it. Has been doing alright for now.

Now with the t5 do you think i can do more red plants and grasses?

with this lighting would you consider my tank low medium or high in light?

hmm i would probably say its medium light since your running T5HOs. only time will tell if the algae will be a problem, but the Excel should help out. as for plants, im not too familiar with plants that work with lower light/non co2 since i went all out on my 55g
