I Got My 253g Tank Today-It's an Open Canvas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
beautiful set up..the fish are going to be very happy with who ever you decide.. wow

That is a beautiful tank. The CA theme sounds like a good one. As for bichirs and cichlids, I have an 11 inch ornate with a JD, Nicaraguan, midas, sevs, and a convict. The only one who has a problem is the 3 inch convict, but he thinks he runs the tank anyway. I tried a 5 inch senegal and he slid into the w/d the first day trying to get away from them. But mine are not as aggressive as your list. Good luck with what ever way it goes, and be sure to post pics of the trimac, you know you're getting one.

I've finally got my wet dry fully functional. Since I converted over my existing FX5 and Emp400, the tank is cycled and ready to go. Now I just need fish. I'll be putting in an order with TUIC this week. Oh and of course the tank needs more decor. I need some large rocks and wood...

Looks great, really glad it's all come together for ya. Looks like they took good care of ya, glad to see it's all good. Look forward more pic's Balton. What kind of gph do you have, looks rippen out of the over flow, I know you mention your 1800 pump, but still, it's kinda Greek. Is that a 72" strip light or 2, 36", couldn't tell. Also is that the 156 to the right of it you spoke of earlier? looks bigger, at least from that angle & to the left on the floor is that a canopy for your new tank, cause it looks beautiful & heavy, lol. Would love to see it in person sometime, maybe you could show me the wet/dry ropes, yet to take that one on, looks really jammin though. Not a bad vac. at all, lots of wrk I'm sure, but the good kind, eigh. :) :) :)

Cheers mate:cheers:

Hi
Off subject but whats in the blue storage container fry?
Thanks

Actually that's a 45 gallon rubbermaid temporarily housing my pair of Festae, 3 Filament Barbs and 6 RedHooks. The 253 gallon tank you see is sitting where my 135 was. Unfortunately I don't get to keep both so my fish stayed in a bucket while the new tank was getting ready. Looking back at the pic it's pretty ugly and had eggcrate over the whole top so the fish wouldn't jump out. I don't know why it's not on there in that picture.

Hey Derek...thanks man. The other tank is a 60"x24"x25" 156g. The lights on the new tank are the 2 36" strip lights from the former 135 gallon. I wish I could upgrade my lighting but it's not in the budget right now. Getting new fish is my first priority. As far as the wet dry, it was a pain in the ass hooking up. DNA forgot to bring the bulkheads so I had to go pick them up and then they gave me the wrong size. Had to go back again and they got it right. Then I had to make several trips to the home depot rigging the pump. I know their plumbing dept very well now. While at it I also upgraded the intake tubes. The pump is rated at 1800gph and I think it's too much power. It needs to be downgraded to about 1500gph. Maybe I'll change my mind when I get a big bioload of fish lol. Anyway, I'm loving the new tank and can't wait to put some fish in. Oh and look at the pics one more time...notice the footstool? You kept telling I'm going to need one for this tank but I needed for the others too. I'm only 5'11"...not a giant like you. :D

So I was looking again at the tank & noticed that part of the bck was blck, but that there was a small portion that wasn't, is that where the filter starts & stops? & will you be doing anything else to the bck. Mines set up & I still haven't figured out wht I want to do, lol. The lighting seems like it wrks ok, I've got 1, 48" single strip light on mine, could be a lot brighter, but like you said, w/ priorities as is, it will wrk just fine for a while to come, lol. Saw the step stool, you're even better off than you think. You may need 1, but at least something like yours wrk's for you, I finally found 1 that I could use. The dog gone things have safty weight ratings & most, even HEAVY duty ones, only go to 200 lbs., which is a no go, cause me + a 5-7 gal. bucket of water = over 265 lbs. :WHOA: Think I'm going to use some of the ideas on the thread here, about innovative ways of water changing, Thinking, "rolling" 45-60 gal. trash can + sub. pump w/ 1" hose, might wrk, as soon as it's in the budget, priorities of course, right, lol.

Is it just me or do they (the tanks) look even bigger once you get them hm, I mean I measured 20 times where mine was going, but still, WoW  . That reminds me, did you mention how many people it took to move that bohemeth?

I guess I'll know who to call for plumbing ?'s then from now on. Nothing like trial by fire, lol.

When where you in at DNA, cause last wknd I mang. to get over to them Sun. afternoon & use some store credit I had for some new African Cichlids. Thought about ya while I was there, thought, I could pass right by him & not even know it, lol. Hopefully you were resting by then (yah right, LOL) w/ all your yoyoing to DNA & HD, LOL. Picked up some suprisingly amazing fish this time, haven't had all that much luck in the recent past, hence the store credit NOT spent, but it's all gone now, lol.

Everythings lookin really good, I hope it all continues that way. :) Look forward to seeing more pic's w/ the new arrivals. :headbang2
