I got myself a new Tropical Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah...it's a little overstocked. How bout like 10 Black Skirt Tetras? They're awesome. Or maybe like a couple Gambusia Affins in a heavily planted/artificially planted tank so that the fry can escape/survive? And throw in a few Ghost Shrimp. Or you could try brackish and get some Muskippers and Red Claw Crabs...You can do a lot more with ANY size tank than people say. Go for it!

Theres loads you can do with a tank like that, i like bottomfeeders idea which would be good if you went with indian dwarf mudskippers. Also you could have dwarf puffers which are in my opinion one of the better options for nanos.

get creative. How bout a school of Corydoras? or if you can get your hands on it, get a Darter Perch (just be carefull which one, some are protected) or something else. Get something with alot of charectar. That's why Mudskippers are a good option. Hard to find a fish with as much personality. (Other than Puffers, like Synodontisjack said.)

I like the corydora idea get like two or so of those guys. A small pleco or two to keep the tank nice. If it were mine, Id probably turn it into a planted tank with the corydoras, small plecos and maybe some rummy noses, or even neon tetras. Easy to take care of and with the pretty mini stripes of the rummy noses it would look cool. The black and white (with red nose) with the green of all the plants would look cool. Same with the blue in the neon tetra mini school you could have. I duno. As you know, just be careful not to get somethin that will outgrow the tank, we wanna be fair to the fish :D

What types of fish do you like???

You'd need at least 5 Cories...yeah, Op, what do you LIKE? read up. Go to liveaquaria. Dont by any means BUY anything, theyll charge you your lims, face, butt, car, house, and more, but just get some info on minimum tank size. If you want more than 1 species, get some that need similar water parameters and wont piss eachother off.

How about some cherry barbs? I had a pair that spawned in a 2.5 gallon heavily planted tank. One day I just saw this tiny red baby hiding among the plants - pretty cool!

I say go with 2 dwarf puffer fish. Those things are sweeettt....:grinno:

this is your first tank? have you, or are you currently cycling the tank? i suggest you look at a bunch of tanks and see what you like. learn up on all types of fish. learn their behaviors, adult sizes, tank mate compatibility, whether they're nocturnal or not, etc. i would also be looking at set ups you might like, whether it is a species tank, a biotope, or what have you.

however, if you are merely asking for opinions, i would go for a school of asian rummy nose tetra aka sawbwa resplendens aka a lot of other names. school of cories sound good. i have a school of rummy nose and they're great, good at schooling. however, i am planning on getting dwarf puffers, as the rummy nose do lack personality. i would say that if you could maintain water changed, etc, you should get a dwarf cichlid. personality trumps looks, in my opinion... and this extends to more than just fish, imo :)

the tank looks great though. good luck with it all. you have a heater on this bad boy?
