I hate ICH!!!! it all hits at once

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hope I'm not hijacking OP's thread but since we are on the subject of ich, hope OP don't mind if I ask a question: Since salt is used to treat ich, can we add a little salt (say one teaspoon per 5 gallon) for a community tank? I know mollies would love it but not sure about tetras.

make sure to use the same net only for ick tank.. otherwise it spreads like wildfire.

yes they can all take salt...aquarium salt and follow directions.. it does not do the fish good to use salt but with ick it is a life saver..

in my experience salt doesn't affect the tetras in a good or bad way, it won't hurt them in those small levels. you adding for ick, or just for the heck of it?

Red devil beat me to it,lol
and i found out that my brother came over a few weeks ago and used my net to drop a feeder in my tank while i was outside, just so happens my feeder tank has ich, so red devil is right, ich loves nets, lol. meant to add that yesterday but i forgot, seems like you beat me to both comments.

i add salt to my tank everything i do a water change.. not a teaspoon though, just like couple of pinch across the tank.. i heard that the combination of salt and raise of temp will help solve the issue of ich.. when i starting my tank, i have my temp at 78-80 and salt, i havent had a sign of ick...

but i do add salt to all my tank for the heck of it cause it make me feel like it helps haha.. and i dink it does =)

that is my exact question. Can it be use as a prophylactic means or should be added only for Ich treatment? I know mollies like brackish water but will tetras tolerate adding salt every water change?

yes that is the easiest way for it to travel from tank to tank... i hate ick.... i hate ick......... had it once with my loaches.. lost some..

i wouldn't go to a full out brackish, but a teaspoon per 5 gallons will not hurt or help the tetras, should be fine.. and i hate ich too, haven't had it in forever, i'm just glad i found out how i got it, been bothering me for a while and when i talked to him, everything became clear... Just so everone knows, i didn't use salt, i used rid ich even though i know salt works. The rid-ich worked fine so far, as far as the last two days i've had no sign of ich at all, i know ich can live in the tank for around 3 days after all signs are gone, so i'll keep the treatments up, but all my fish look wonderful and didn't lose any this time. Glad i caught it early.
