i hate my driftwood

Oh Sweetness - Removing the wood and boiling it is the best way to get the tannins out in a hurry... Running carbon on the tank with tannins in it will remove the tannins, and naturally water changes will as well...

FishyJoe - Each piece of Driftwood has a given amount of tannins (tannic acid) in it. Once you get it out, it's out. I'm not sure if I fully understood your question, so I hope that helped....

when you boil it.. dont just do it for a few moments.. boil it for 1/2 hour or longer.. and you may need to do this more than once...

you can also soak it in a bucket for weeks changing the water every few days

it has taken forever for my drift wood to leach
got any ideas how to make it go faster...?

I mostly have SA fish.....So I, and the fish, enjoy the tea color fresh driftwood brings...The only downfall about "tea" is that it may stain the silicone in tanks(never happened to me though)....

If you do not want the tea color, leave the driftwood in a large bucket filled with water for a month...Change the water 3 timesa week.....

It seems like as soon as my last piece of drift stopped tannin it started to deteriorate right away. Was it just that piece or does that happen to all of them.

It will take several years for the driftwoods to stop leaching tannic acids.

Tannins don't stain the silicon. Where did you get that info?

I don't think so. None of any of my tanks' silicon has yellow stains. Anyway, even if it does, why would it matter? We still stain it with meds as we treat our fish.;)
