I HATE PETSMART

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It was 16. It was just changed to 17. This is because some states had specific rules, and instead of having to deal with it, they changed the minimum age universally.

They do not brain wash people.

Nepotism is against policy.

I think they were trying to spare your feelings by saying your over-qualified..

At the petco i work at in CT you have to be 18 to purchase live animals...so it only makes sense that you have to be 18 to work there. But alas that would vary state to state i guess.

And from what i have seen, petsmart puts a lot more effort into their employees than petco. Every petsmart i go to has the same mindless, mythical, babble spewing out of everyone working in the fish dept at the stores.

Now in my situation i had no training, they just showed me how to bag fish as this was a few years ago when i didnt know fish very well. Now at this point i insist on customers IGNORING any type of "Caresheet" created by petco, along with any other husbandry techniques. There are all sorts of regulations, step by step reprocesses, and loads of other bs put out by this stupid company...they seem to expect all their employees are stupid.

Sorry, that ended up a lot longer than i should. I have a serious love/hate relationship with my job.

Why would you be over qualified. They have to be retarted or something because who would turn down a person who can bring bigger and better sales in and still know tons about any fish you put in front of them. They are STUPID!! Don't work there if they are that dumb. Petco maybe different but they suck just as bad. I would say apply for a LFS management position. Strictly fish though because you can never be " over qualified". OMG i am peeing my pants lol "over qualified" hahaha.

Or it could be a fabricated story to comfort the ego for not getting the job. JK, they probally don't want to butt heads. If you know more than the manager, thats not good for them. If you were manager, would you want some little peep squeak knowing more than you and telling you you're wrong?

It's not a problem about knowing more than the manager. There's a reason there are specialist positions. To expect a manager to be the master of all areas before they are qualified to manage specialists individuals is like expecting the president of the united states to have a doctorates in all of the fields.
This does apply to pet stores because i've talked to a manager at a petco about getting a job and they were interested because they 'needed someone who could take care of the saltwater tanks'. If the manager knew about that, then they wouldn't really be that desperate. I just haven't applied yet because i'd be taking a pay cut for awhile. until i pass all those tests.

Overqualified = Potential Fish know-it-all that would attempt to break the company rules, based on fish mythology or beliefs, at every chance because they are self-proclaimed fish experts.. Also, probably expects to get paid alot for their vast internet fish knowledge, a good majority of which could be false.

Not saying this is you.. but this could be why..

This is the reason.... ;) Should go apply at an 'evil' petting zoo...

You know, the one time I applied to work at a pet store (petsmart), I heard how much they make, and said forget it. I kind of always have wanted to work at one, but I already made more than their managers do, anything less than 25$ an hour just sounds depressing to me. Maybe i should own one:irked:
