i have a few questions before i fail again

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well today I learned something new; I moved the new fry to the tank that the first batch is in and luckily there is only 15, because they started eating the fry. The biggest of the 15 might be a half inch long. Wow. They shouldn't be able to eat too many of them right? I'm just shaking my head on this one.

Well to answer my question, here we are not even a full 4 days later and all(150) or so babies are gone. Those 15 are hogs. I will post pics later tonight.

I decided it best to leave the eggs with the parents per fishfreaks suggestion. babies are wigglers right now, but the thing i like most is the color change on my texas. the black isn't very pronounced but I can see it even tho it doesn't show up well on camera. Anyways, here's the pics.

hey man, this thread is pretty cool, I did read the whole thing, its good you documented an entire learning experience, nice to see/read. Good Luck with everything, and yeah in my experience leaving fry with the parents can be a good thing, each pair is different but most are good parents, i've even had pairs go up and eat and then chew it up then spit it out into the swarm and you see all the little babies eating the tiny particles. Again man good luck, can't wait to see how they turn out. Hope for some nice pearly FH.

Yeah, this is a really cool thread. I am on the learning curve with my green texas(carpintis) too. He is trying to mate with a Nandopsis salvini, with little luck so far, but he is a noob lol. He needs some time, it appears. Anyway, this info is really awesome! Best of luck

I don't have any new picks tonight, but the babies are doing great. Mom and dad both let me put my have by them to deliver their food. My texas is possibly the most amazing part of this spawn because he has changed color so drastically. here's a pic of the babies and a couple of him.

I know I said I didn't have any new pics but before I posted I decided I best take a few. Enjoy. And thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement.

Ok, quick update; the babies all seem to be doing fine, but they aren't growing very fast compared to the others I've had. I'm really thinking about moving them to a tank so I can feed them better. I tend to use the overfeed method so they have leftovers to snack on all day, but this messes up the water in the tank for the adults. So what do you think, move or no move? I have a cycled 30 and an empty 55 I can put them in.

I have a couple pics of the first batch. Some are showing nice pearls and color at under 1"! I'm psyched! The latest batch is still in with the parents, but they are starting to do the mating thing again so I think it may be best to move the babies. Enjoy the pics.

Finally decided to go ahead and take some babies away from their parents. I removed about half of them to a 30gl I've had ready for some time. I'm wondering if the parents will eat the remnants? I will let you know what happens.
