well the section that I scraped again looks like its coming back slowly. 24 hours and I will have a definite idea. Will try the vinegar based on the next 24 hours.

I am really thinking about scrapping this tank.

Let the vinegar soak for a while and hopefully that works.

I really don't want to see you give up!

well can I just buy a whole jug of vinegar and dump it in and let it run for a couple days? White vinegar? Does it matter?

When done, do I have to seriously scrub it to get all the vinegar off before the fill again or is a bit of residue ok for the fish?

EDIT: My apologies, I just found all of my own answers. Getting a bit impatient with this thing...

I believe vinegar only affects the pH, so if a small amount is still there, its not going to be the end of the world.

tank is filled with vinegar and water and everything is pumping and running. 24 hours sound ok? scraped everything off in the vinegar water and now just waiting.

Good stuff. Glad to hear it worked out for you.

go to town on it with a mag float see what happens

Did you read the thread???

Nice, snowflake eel would be a good place to start. I think they are underrated as far as eels go because they are so common, but they are pretty sweet looking.
