I went to a place here in St. Louis called Malawi African Cichlids. The place has been in business for over 20 years and I had no idea it even existed. It was a pretty impressive operation. Did a lot of their own breeding. They would have a 55 with the breeding pair (or harem) on the top row all around the shop so you could see exactly what the parents looked like.

They just got in some wild caught cichlids that blew me away. Pretty much their entire body was black with very bright yellow running from the upper lip to the front of the dorsal fin. Any idea what this fish is?

I wanna do some research on it before I go back in 6 months and get some of the babies once they breed....

im not sure of what it could be but i live really close to st louis(alton, IL), and i was wondering if u have the adress to that place

You are closer than you think my friend!!!

It's on West Florissant. Take 270 West to W. Florissant north about a mile and you will see this large strip mall on the left. Malawi African Cichlids is the name. Pretty pricy though. Also, make sure you lock the car. The place is right in the hood.

Once you leave there, head west on 270 to McDonnell Blvd and go right. About 3 miles down on the left (about a mile after the school on the left) is Beldt's Aquarium (also on the left) in the corner of a strip mall. One of the best in St. Louis.

We started at Aqua World near Grand and Gravois, then took Gravois down to Chippewa and hit Pet Market Place at the corner of Watson and Laclede (Chippewa turns into Laclede). The owner hooked my boy up with two S. Multipunks for $18/per and a colored up peacock for $8.99!!!

Then we went West on Laclede about a half mile to Tropical World on the left which is in the Farmer's Market strip mall. Didn't buy anything there. Then we hiked up 270 to Malawi and then to Beldt's.

Beldt's was picked pretty clean, but the few stragglers they had from previous shipments that they put into a tank with a $9.98 price tag and a label of "assorted Haps and Peacocks" were getting bigger, and coloring up. Got me a nice little red fella for $10. My buddy got a Taiwani Reef for the same price as well as a Strawberry and a nice Sunshine ($13 and $20, respectively)....

But no OB like the one in my avatar which was the entire reason for the road trip around St. Louis....I told him you have to be opportunistic with this stuff. Sometimes you get lucky and find a steal, and sometimes you don't find anything....
