Aquaworld - great peacocks as well as other africans. Expensive. Once you get to know the owner he's all about knocking 25% off everything which shows you how much the prices are jacked. They also have Altum Angels, Rays and some extremely rare pirhanas. They bread some pirahna that has never been bred in captivity. Did it totally by accident. They bred through a plastic grate that divided the tank. Only 1 baby survived. I want to say those guys are priced at like $250/per
Need a big male Front. They have a 12 inch male for $125 or $150.
This place has THE BEST plants of anywhere I have ever seen. But if you don't have a high tech tank, don't bother. I have bought plants from this guy a few times and nothing lasts in my low tech tank. My buddy has a high tech tank and the plants he buys go nuts. They have Co2 in every tank.
Some stuff here will just make you chuckle. Tiger plecos for $40. sure they are 3 inches long, but the 1 inch ones at Pet Market Place are 5.99. Royal Farlowella for $60? 3 inch Bristlenose plecos for $40
Tropical World - Carry a lot of New World Cichlids as well as a decent amount of Africans. Angels are hit or miss. Carry some large oddballs. Mostly stuff people turn back in. They put it in this 400 gallon in the back. Currently they have a nice RTC in that tank and a large bichir in another tank. No plants.
They just expanded and added a salt water section. Their tank of the month (whichever tank size they have on sale that month) is a real steal. Got a Nature's View 75, tank, top, light and stand for $309 last Dec. Right now they have a 120 H (5'X18"X24"), tank, top, light and stand for $530.
Pet Market Place - The only place in the area that has oddball plecos. Get to know the owner here and he will hook you up too. They normally carry Queen Arabesque, Red Tail Sternella, Royal Clown and Schneeball's. Gold Nuggets, Green Phantoms, and other species are a little more rare but the guy will order anything for you (outside of a true zebra and a blue eye). Also the only place in the area that carries Panda Cories. He has a regular supply of S. Multipunks that he sells for $20
. Down the street at TW they have some less than an inch long for $40. These are 1.5 inches. I own 3 and MDSKLZ has 2. I highly recommend these. Oh, and he has red Fronts in right now. He has 3 left. I think they are $27/per and about 3/4 of an inch longThey have a decent plants. Cheap but only a few to choose from
Malawi - Tons of Africans. Tons, tons, tons, tons. Right in the middle of the hood which I thought a little comical. They breed a ton there. Also have nice angels, Dwarf SA Rams, etc. Pretty cool to see a tank of babies and wonder what they will look like and just look up and see the parents in the tank above. Pricy.
Beldt's - Huge salt selection. Great selection of Africans if they have just gotten a shipment in. Wait a week after the shipment and it will be picked clean. Decent selection of CA and SA cichlids. Lots of angels and discus. Some plants but it's a near identical set up to a petstmart (tiered acrylic troughs that flow into each other with the two large halogen lights hanging over), with a near identical selection. The prices are pretty good.
Not sure if we want to put this post in another forum section, but I thought I would expound a bit....
1 thing about Malawi is they have a large selection of fish NOT FOR SALE. They wow you with this great grow tank, then tell you they will be for sale in a few weeks. Several of their other tanks had not for sale signs on them as well. I will admit the fish in the frow take are awesome, however, when you can't buy what you want, when it's right there in front of you. It sucks!!
