ur gonna need a lot more then a PLANNED 700gallon lol.

stop planning, and start doing. buy fish later. or start smaller, aim smaller, and start doing.

It's people like you who want to make people freak over a fish.. :(

To be honest it's just a fish and there's more than one way to skin a cat when talking accomidations. Start thinking of a plan since you already have him and enjoy him for as long as you can.

thanks i feel better know, wold a 10'x3'x2.5' tall tank work?

Too small.. Realistically to attempt to keep one til adult size I would think at least 12-15' long x at least 4'-5' wide. You might be able to trim the length down pending where we see these guys topping out in tanks. Most of us will have ours at a larger size while yours will be catching up. So throughout time we should be able to give you more info on growth pattern, if we see them still growing or they seem to stop at a certain point.

But again on tanks you can step up tank size and progress to larger and large as he grows. Ultimately he would need a large DIY style tank probably. My next tank will be a somewhat large tank then step up to a DIY when I see it getting tight. You could even attempt something like a cheap pool and see how it works out. It all depends on budget/room. But like I said of course there are minimum room req. you must provide at bare minimum.

I don't know anyone who has topped one out at monster record size in home aquaria so it's hard to say until someone here gets to that point or you see for yourself at what size he'll stop growing in home aquaria conditions. And I'd rather be upfront than say "Man that thing gets like 7' in the wild, well not really but that's the world record. So plan on 119,000g tank." And be unrealistic, scaring you rather than being truthful/factual and supporting you with info. My 2 pennies.

All in all they're awesome fish, enjoy it for now(you already have him) and while you're enjoying it think of an exit strategy. :)

i wasn't talking about the fish in this thread specifically. i was referring to his sig claiming tons of fish, with plans.

don't get all worked up, you know me, im a nice guy, and jus lookin out for the fish and informing others that plans usually never happen. you jus gotta do it.

yeah you are pretty nice normally.. :) Was hoping you weren't being a "don't keep big fish you could never fit them.." dream crusher.. :);)

what do you need to know?

I will tell you obviously lower end of the temp grade should slow his metabolism down thus slowing growth. As will smaller feedings/not feeding everyday.
