I know red devils are agressive, but why is mine not?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
once they hit the 4" mark, their attitude goes aggressive. My 4" RD went ballistic and started to chase after my 5" oscar. After all that, my oscar was badly injured so i had to separate them for awhile.

This was in my 55gal

Simple reason is they are still babies... all red devils become aggressive almost all the time..

my guy at 5+" is a real jerk. He always picks with my texas hybrid and ends up getting chased around. He loves to start trouble. Picks on the mayan and JD although they are only 2-3". This is in my 180gallon.

One observation I have made, is that if a RD gets harassed by a particular fish when it's young, it will kill that fish when it's old enough reguardless of tank size. It may domiate the others but that fish will be eliminated. Watch out for that.

Trust me, when that devil reaches around 6-7in he will turn into a psycho. #in is too small. Soon those convicts will be gone.

Once he gets a few more inches on him that Con will learn to leave him alone. I think that some fish know the potential of their tankmates. They know that once bigger, their tankmates will be trouble so they try to take them out early. Your Con is just getting his licks in early. Trust me, your RD will have plenty of aggression to run with the big boys. Sometimes they have a little too much.

Mine is just getting to the 5" mark and the change was sudden he was always hiding getting picked on by the con. then one day the con had a lot of scales missing, now it try to dominate all its tank mates

Thats how it goes. Sometimes you'll wake up to some dead tankmates and the devil claiming his territory. Sad but true.
