I know red devils are agressive, but why is mine not?

Revenge is sweet.

as everyonne else has said just give him some time... i had a breeding pair until the male snapped and killed the female, both were about 6 inches. my male is about 9/10 inches now in his own tank. i have 8 inch butti in a different tank but i dont think he would stand a chance against "Big Red" nastiness.

You guys over rate Red Devils ad Midas, any adults i see if socialised with lots of other fish are docile.

In fact i only ever see adults in shops, never seen juvis for sale around here.

RD's like Flowerhorns etc tend to turn into killers when kept alone, they take the tank as theres then murder anything that enters there territory.

I think most of us are speaking of our personal experiences with keeping RDs. But I do agree that some people manage to keep them with tankmates. I believe that more times than not that RDs will be aggressive.

It depends on how you keep them, they remind me of big convicts personality wise.

If kept in a large enough community tank I would have to agree. In my 300 I have two rd's (one male, one female), one male midas, and one male amarillo (basicly a big bad ass midas) and they all get along relatively well with everyone. In my 55 gallon I keep one female red devil (solo) and she can be a first class witch.

Now if kept with others in a tank smaller than 4 feet it probably isn't going to end pretty.

^ Agreed :)

You should be patient as everyone else has said. And thankful as well that he is still playing nice. I have a 3'' offspring from my pair and he is holding his own. Soon you will be needing a larger tank or looking for new tank mates. Or maybe he will be an excellent community fish. But it sounds like you don't want a peaceful Red Devil. ;-)

I agree with Lowcel as well. I have no problem with M/F. My only problem with them is trying to keep them from spawning. So I keep them seperated.
