I woke up to go to work, and as I was rolling out of bed, my husband yells from the room " oh yay, it happened again!" First thought, dead fish. Since I've had a few random deaths lately, I assumed the worst.

Nope even better. I walk out to the living room to find my cat in a puddle thats about 8 feet long and from about 2 feet in front of the tank, back to the wall. I thought that last time it happened it was from me turning on a powerhead and the flow pushing against the return for the canister, guess not.

We have a protein skimmer that we just put on for extra surface agitation, since we had it lying around. Evidently the seal isn't so water tight anymore and leaked all night. Either that or my fish hit the pump on it and moved it, but I suspect the leak, since I had a problem about a year ago with that too. (though we thought we fixed it.)

Oh well, it was kinda funny to us. We walked outside eventually and found that the water had seeped through the wall and the walkway between our apartment was flooded. Hee hee. Hope the maintenance men don't come by and see it.

The water was about 1/3 down, so I would guess 35-40 gallons were leaked out. No casualties thank goodness, just a wet kitty who decided he liked puddle water instead of his bowl and 3 different sets of wet pawprints now cover the fake hardwood floors. So glad I didn't have carpet.

Sorry to hear about your leak...yeah our cat loves playing in water it's hilarious.

I had a foster cat for a while that was just obsessed with the fish, and water. I woke up so many times to crashing sounds. He ripped all the food off of the top of the tank and was laying in the middle of it just eating away happily. I walked in from going to the store and caught him. Here's some pics of his curiosity. I'm thankful my permanent cat is just a fat blob, and doesn't like to move much lol. He tried once to catch the fish, and poor guy just couldn't make it that high.

Yeah ours love my senegal bichirs. He sits on a table across from the tank and stares at them for hours, he loves when i feed them.

notcarpet has got to be the best flooring cover ever...

however i must say.. the $15 6'x4' rubber backed carpets from ikea are pretty wonderful.. not only do they soak up every drop of water that hits them but they are also great places for cats to scratch..

I may have to try that, its a great idea. There is an Ikea about 30 minutes away too..... god I hate shopping.

Nothing a good Regina wouldnt pull out of the carpet if u had one.

I used the regina on my carpet in front of the Tank when i had pull all the stuff out of the tank when i sold all my fish. The water had dripped off the items soaking the carpet.

Seriously?

Yep, except fish shopping :D I can't stand looking for clothes, or home crap. I would rather go grocery or fish shopping. I am going to culinary school next semester and just love to cook, so grocery shopping is actually fun for me. If I am fish store hopping, and my hubby is ready to leave and I'm not, I will tell him to go sit in the car while I finish. I HATE being rushed when a fish catches my attention, though if he doesn't get me out soon, I have a tendency to start rearranging fish in my head to fit this one or that one in....
