I woke up to go to work, and as I was rolling out of bed, my husband yells from the room " oh yay, it happened again!" First thought, dead fish. Since I've had a few random deaths lately, I assumed the worst.
Nope even better. I walk out to the living room to find my cat in a puddle thats about 8 feet long and from about 2 feet in front of the tank, back to the wall. I thought that last time it happened it was from me turning on a powerhead and the flow pushing against the return for the canister, guess not.
We have a protein skimmer that we just put on for extra surface agitation, since we had it lying around. Evidently the seal isn't so water tight anymore and leaked all night. Either that or my fish hit the pump on it and moved it, but I suspect the leak, since I had a problem about a year ago with that too. (though we thought we fixed it.)
Oh well, it was kinda funny to us. We walked outside eventually and found that the water had seeped through the wall and the walkway between our apartment was flooded. Hee hee. Hope the maintenance men don't come by and see it.
The water was about 1/3 down, so I would guess 35-40 gallons were leaked out. No casualties thank goodness, just a wet kitty who decided he liked puddle water instead of his bowl and 3 different sets of wet pawprints now cover the fake hardwood floors. So glad I didn't have carpet.
