I have 2 Magnums on my 110 gallon tank. The first has the blue filter and the media basket filled with with ceramic bio rings with the bio wheel rig. On the second one I have the micron filter in. It's on a timer to run twice a day for about an hour each time to polish the water. It does a fantastic job, but the micron filter clogs pretty quickly.
you have a filter stagnate 11 out of every 12 hours?

Well I just tried using one that my roomate had gotten with a tank he bought. First it leaked everywhere, then did not move as much water as I had hoped. I then went out and bought the micron filter and blue sleeve, and the micron filter does not fit in the canister. I said screw the micron and was just going to use carbon and the sleeve(which did not fit perfectly either,) and the thing would not pump water. It was running, but the impellor would not line up right or something. Im done with it for now.

It sounds like you & your roommate got a broken used filter... that sucks but you can't blame the filter for it...

I agree 11 hours off / 1 hour on doesn't sound so good... but if it's working for you who am I to say anything...

Personally I would lean towards 15 minutes on / 2 hours off... but that much on/off/on/off/on/off may wear out the motor pretty quick, which again, isn't the filters fault.

So far all the complaints I'm hearing are user error... no reason to hold those against the filter or the manufacturer :D

It sounds like you may have a bad O ring. If you run the micron filter, you have to take out the media basket. I have had two of these filters and both have been great once i figured out how they worked. At first i didn't know how to properly use the quick disconnects (water everywhere), and they can be tough to seal up properly. Currently I am running one with the blue sleeve around the media basket, and the media basket filled with bio-max.

We have a 350 and a H.O.T. both work fine and have no real complaints about them. The only thing I have found is that due to their zero bypass setup, is that when using the micron filter if it clogs and you don't catch it right away they can suck in the foam seals and tear them. These pieces http://www.petmountain.com/product/...rineland-magnum-rubber-gasket-set-3-pack.html

Not the filters fault either.

The 350 is on a 55g with a blue sleeve and the canister is filled with crushed/broken(can fit more) bio rings.

The H.O.T. 250 runs on my 125g in conjunction with a FX5. The Fx5 has the all the trays filled with bio media with cut down aquaclear sponges in the top tray. It is mainly a bio and large debris filter. The H.O.T. gets the canister filled with bio media(if any) and a blue pad, which is swapped out as needed for the micron filter. The H.O.T. also get bounced around from tank to tank if needed, but has separate guts for each tank and gets a scrub down(It would suck to unknowingly spread a yet unknown illness).

After having both the 350 and H.O.T. 250, I would take two of the H.O.T.s over the price of one 350. When I tested both of them the 350 and H.O.T. 250 both were around 290 gph with media.

All in all a great entry level canister filter that will be around for awhile.

I got one and I hate it( mines loud for some reason and it doesnt hold enough media) but its been working great the 3yrs I owned mines. I run mines with the micron cartrige 24/7 with bags of ceramic rings filling up the remaining space in the filter.
