so right now i will assume it is the evaporation of water but how do i make sure the smell doesnt come back? how do i eliminate the smell? anybody with an experience like this?

Dehumidifier, i use a window fan sometimes too.
9 tanks in 1 room gets a bit crazy with humidity. I worry about mold more then anything.

Do the work suggested above. If that does not work then: Is there anything else you can tell us about the smell? Pungent? Fish plant smell? Oily fishy? What brand and type of foods? Are you feeding any frozen foods if so what brands and types?
i will man. thanks! i only feed hikari.. massivore and food sticks. thats it. i just hope it goes away soon.

When do your pellets expire? I was getting a really bad smell from my tank too and I decided to stop feeding m massivores after I found out they were expired and the smell vanished..

I just started massivore training my bass & geos and that stuff STINKS! up my kitchen lol. Real funky and like you I cant ever smell it when I sniff in the tank just around it. If it doesnt get eaten clean it up ASAP that should eliminate some of the stench. Also mines new not even close to expiration
