i like the diatom filter idear hows the maintaince running it 12 hours a day

of how bout tje mag 350 with the microne cartridge
how expansive are the cartridges, how long do they last

just go get yourself an aquaclear 110 HOB. you can either add a second sponge, or just use cheap poly fill with the first sponge, either way your tank will be crystal.

about 10 bux and they can be cleaned and reused...

MICRON CARTRIDGE Remove and clean cartridge – never brush or machine wash. Rinse off all visible dirt. Mix a solution of one part chlorine bleach to three parts water in a separate container. Immerse cartridge completely in solution and soak overnight. Rinse thoroughly until chlorine smell disappears.

that will be more then enough for buffing your water. not to mention ease of use, and cleaning.

but they can be costly. for a cheaper way, try using purigen for sure!

Mag 350 is a great particulate filter, I had green water in my 75 once and the 350 cleared it up in a few hrs. and if you run it off the sump it wont need too much maintainance, but I would suggest getting a 2nd micron cartrege so you can just swap them out, one in while you clean the dirty one.
