i need clean up crew suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I didn't used to 'like' plecos either.. and I was never a fan of catfish until recently (pictus and eclipse cats are just too cute). They do serve a purpose though and I like to be able to have different 'levels' to my own tank (just my opinion). Certain fish clean algae like no one's business and others just scavenge like crazy.

No fish can substitute for cleaning the tank yourself though.. >.>

I really don't like the phrase "clean up crew". For me there is no clean up crew. Any fish or invert that "cleans" or eats algae or waste, digests it then produces waste of it's own, sometimes more waste than in the first instance, ie a common plec which are basically poo machines.

If you mean catch left over food, thats an entirely different matter...

First off... Thanks fishy12.

And for the rest of you... yes. Of course I know I'll have to clean the tank myself. I'm not retarded. I just wanted some fish or inverts to help out with leftover food and algae.

Here's my stock list:
-2 sulferheads (about an inch long)
-1 striped raphael catfish (inch and a half)
-1 striped peacock eel (4 inches)

Thanks

I think he means to clean leftover food lets not flame him. I swear thats all 3/4 of u guys do is flame....

Whts ur stock in the tank?

Telling him that any bottom feeders will make more waste than they clean up is not flaming...

What about ghost shrimp? I know nothing about them, but think they look cool.

A school of corys will help with left over food plus there really cool fish. As for algae would you rather have a fish or snail.

never get a fish just for the sole perpose of what its suppose to do BUT in ur case you did mention that you wanted some fish to help clean leftovers and you already have a catfish so why not try 6 corys? and the eels will out grow the tank to

I have a horde or 15 adult albino cories in my 55g planted tank. Its awesome to watch them school. They'll eat the food falls to the bottom, but you'll still have to give extra food for them and make sure it reaches the bottom.

3/4? Just havin a little tongue-in-cheek. Sheeeesh! The point IS, all fish make waste and a "cleaner" or 'clean-up" crew is somewhat of an oxy....algea eaters, bottom feeders and filter feeders are considered "cleaners" but they dont replace good filtration and husbandry. GET THE FISH YOU LIKE. Then clean up after them. :D
