Yet they were funny. I agree though, your bottom feeders/algae eaters still crank out waste, nor do they replace water changes or filter service. I prefer coreys/loaches to eat left overs as well as population control for egg layers. Ottos, farlowella or a BN pleco would all be good for algae control in a 30g but keep in mind you still have to throw chunks of veggies and algae wafers in to keep those guys healthy, they cant live entirely on the algae in your 30g.

cheap, if they get eatten no biggie and they clean up pretty good
