Just get 12 guppies. 8 females, and 4 males. Get 5 cory catfish, 2 snails, some ghost shrimp, and you'll be fine. My 2 guppies are 3" long, so expect them to grow that big in a period of 6 months. If you get any less, your tank will be fine, but if you get more than 12 guppies, 5 cory catfish, and 2 snails, You will run into a nitrate problem. 5 fish per gallon is like 5 people trying to fit into a closet! Not enough room! Catfish will help balance out the nitrates in the tank, and the snails eat the algae. While the guppies...poop. LOL.

Provide pics next to a ruler or else no one would believe you. 3" is a huge size for a guppy. Also, you claim that they would grow to 3". But at what size? At birth, this is completely false. There is no way a guppy could grow .5" a month.

I would expect those fish above to present a problem in a 4G tank, but a 30G can handle much more. It actually does not determine the size of the tank, but the filtration and water change amounts that decide on the nitrate 'problem'.

No fish can in any way shape or form reduce nitrates. All fish create waste.
