I now live on Mars

To get an idea where I live. The map above, my house is about the left corner if the Interestate 205 sign. I live across the Columbia River from Portland Oregon in Vancouver Washington.

How sad to see Oregon burning to the ground. I’m afraid the High Sierra is going to be pretty much toast as well.

We are still well below the fire line and it looks like the creek fire above us is about 10% contained and slowing down as much of the fuel is consumed. Fire burns up the mountain quickly. Downhill it takes longer.

Today I have been smelling mostly Douglasfir but occasionally I will smell aromatic western red cedar burning and once in a blue moon and I will catch the smell of a burning tire on the breeze. The smoke has lifted somewhat and is not as dense but the air quality is still quite bad. I have swept up a good bit of ash from my boat yard today.

Today I can at least see the sun

But sadly the local news said we have the worst air on the planet atm, that and it fells like we had a sandstorm in my house.

Another day of just barely seeing the sun, but wait there's more....let's throw in a dense layer of fog to boot....

So far our only danger is from lots of smoke and it has been coming in waves. As the winds change slightly we get fresh breezes and then smoke.

Working outside I keep ducking into my shed where I have an oxygen tank. True, it’s just welding oxygen, but it’s more pure than California’s normal air has been for 50 years.

I was planning to barbecue a pork roast on the grill but I decided that I should cook it in the oven instead.

I am not so worried about the fires in Oregon, more so the one about 50 miles away as the crow flies. The Big Hallow fire.

looks *almost* as bad a dust storm in Phoenix...of course we're getting plenty of your smoke here too .. depending on the prevailing wind...
