I recently bought some new fish but should i return one due to aggression

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i would just put them in the 55g you have and then save up for a bigger tank, its kind of pointless to waste money on a 75g for them when they will outgrow it within a few months and for 2 Os, GT and Sev you are probably going to need at least a 6ft 125g in order for them to all have room and the water be able to stay clean between wc, aggression wise they should be fine IME my GTs were only reason aggressive when defending themselves as long as others left them alone they didnt really bother anyone other than the occassional chase here and there

My jack is the boss over my green terror. He never tries to rule over him. I found my jacks to be very aggressive at a little size but to mellow out as they got older. Kind of like an old grouchy guy that everyone respects and doesn't cause trouble but if anyone stands up to him gets their butt kicked.

Wow I must be in the minority, I've never had an aggressive JD. Not even close. I've probably kept a dozen through the years, all peaceful, including a breeding pair with cichlid tankmates in an embarrassingly small tank :(

In a 75 with a bit more "elbow room" you might find there's less aggression.

Ya. Unless you plan on a 6 foot tank in the near future I would not get any more fish. A 75g would not be big enough in the long term.

As far as aggression now, I think in the 55g it may be less for now.

I know you said that the oscar was your first fish and you want to keep him but unless you go to a bigger tank I would bring back the oscar unless you want to go to a much larger tank. I think the GT and JD will be fine in the 55g

edit: a 55 with a few hiding places

I've always kept the most aggressive one and worked around that. They are often the moore interesting and better looking specimens

Do this. Some times you can find a bigger tank for the same price as a smaller one. I bought my 72g bow front tank, stand, heater, glass top, new filter and 4' light fixture for $400. I have recently seen a 135g and a 150g for the same price. It pays to shop and save your money, because you will be much happier in the long term.

gt, jd, oscar wouldn't be ok in the long run in a 75. ur gonna have to go bigger. same with a gt, sevs, and oscar. if they are small they will be ok but its gonna have to get bigger fairly quick with an oscar cuz they grow like crazy

Yup. You can find some good deals if you look and just go as big as you can. Don't get a 75 gal if you are just going to upgrade in a year. Go big or go home. Haha I had to say it.
