Thanks much. Any idea of what I should do aesthetically? My tank is very bare.

add a little aquariam salt also... your tank is fine for now... i would let them settle in before i did too much... stress brings out HITH faster then anything else in Oscars.. so let them enjoy their new home and in a couple of weeks you can fancy it up a bit..

Sounds good. I put some salt in it first thing yesterday. And is there any way to sex these? I just read another thread about two Jags mating and my oscars are doing the same. They hit mouths together and will swim by and shake at each other. Could I possibly have some fry in the future?

Oscars are not the friendliest towards each other...two can easily be aggressive with each other... so i hope thats not the case... many times i had to separate my Oscars... one just always bullied the other once they reached some maturity... i hope that it is the mating dance instead... post pics up on them closer so people can quess... but venting is the only accurate way to sex cichlids...

Well they aren't really being aggressive about it. They open their mouths and just kinda gently bump into each other. I'm hoping it's the mating dance as well. I'll try to get a video of it and see if anyone can tell me.

That is just sad thank you for doing what you did

It felt right. Seeing them in a half filled tank with basically feces-filtered water made me sick. I'm keeping them in the 55 for a short while and then either selling them to a good home with a bigger tank, or just upgrading myself.

Wow, great save! I'm surprised they don't have hole in the head after that ordeal. Thanks for making my day. :D

the oscars and plec (if a little pale) look to be in quite good condition.
good save.

Thanks again guys. I'm pretty happy about doing this. Any recommendations on what I should be feeding these big guys? I've fed them pellets once, a piece of celery, and a few mysis shrimp. Any other options I should try?
