I spawned my Ghost knife!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For godsakes just put some eggs somewhere safe NOT in a tumbler! A nice little brood tank with a sponge filter is all I can think about in this instance..

i'll put more pics tomorrow. only have 20meg sd card! (is this like antique now???).
been taking some high def shots but as most of them were from the first failed spawn so i'm going to retake them again tomorrow. there's eggs stuck between the filter and the glass there's like 1/2cm gap and some how three of them are in a line!
there's eggs i'm going to leave it all natural in the tank, some eggs been there for 3 days so i guess they don't really eat the eat.
with the ghost knife breeding habits not readily availalbe, i'm postting my daily observations.
behaviours between the three ghost knives are ever so close. females practically sleep together and right now when it's dark, they are all slowly moving around together, occassionally male stamps his grounds for a split second then, back to harmoney.

ps. male will start feeding at about 1/2 normal rate the next morning, females hardly eats after spawn (or perhaps they have a long week breeding cycle????)

just so awesome.. congradulations again.. for 1st time i ever heard of this... keep everything documented and lots of pics.. cannot wait to see the babies..i am hoping...

hmm somethings not right. tanks full of debris (looks like the most eggs have rotten and thus bacterial bloom).
fish are fine. eggs only few looks good.
not sure if going solid colour means its off??
some eggs thats been there for a while are still clear with white centre.
anyway so stage 2 hatching eggs (difficult! lol).
after leaving these eggs (by the way parents aren't eating them) and hoping it will result in a fry, if not, i'll be getting better filter and equipments.
i'll also measure current ph and gh and kh (i think i got those kits somewhere).
i'm pretty sure the ph will be quite high as it use to host tanganiykans ciclhds.
i know have enough filtration but it doesn't have any fine filter function (just bacterial filtering) so adding this will clean the water from excess debris and hoping this will improve on the hatching side????
i'll keep you posted soon.

little update, eggs almost gone but today i changed water and bam they are doing it but shes laying in the filter, theres only the couple this time so let so how the eggs will turn out this time as I am not going to touch it at all and not going to feed as they don't seem to eat. half of the ffiler is covered in eggs! it's disgusting lol.
will take some photos tomorrow.

all previous eggs seemed to be gone, but last night they laid in the same spot again so this time, i'm not going to disturb it.
must be something to do with the water flow as they laid on the filter....

only the male seem to guard the eggs during the mating time but once thats over, they abandon it. however they laid the eggs between the glass and the filter (enough gaps for the eggs to fit and thats it!) so it seems they try to lay in crevies and hope nothing can reach those???

i'll take some more pics now.

here's some photo's i took just now.
i took it in rather high quality mode so sorry about the load time.
