I think he's dying :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Unplug everything?? No no no!!! Keep the filtration and everything going, maybe keep the lights off but still should not be an issue.

i would not do a thing. unplug all filters, heaters, ect. throw a towel over the tank and let him chill and wait.

DON'T UNPLUG THE FILTERS... THAT has to be the WORST advice I have heard on this entire thread,,nothing personal to whoever posted it... turning the light off might help... maybe try 10% -15% every other day w/c's.. I KINDA think lots of big w/c's might be hurting more than helping ,,, have you checked ph, especially compared to the OTHER TANK?

this is soo sad, makes me think of my slayer, it may be the shock of being moved. def no were near an Oscar but I had 2x bettas I moved. perfectly fine, get to there new tank, sit on bottem dead next day. I pray this isn't the case.

If you moved him into a new tank get some bacteria in that tank. Did you add him to a tank without it being cycled?

I moved the whole sump including media from the old tank to the new and even filled half the new tank with water from the old to get it up to temp quicker, I haven't checked ph to be honest.

Is his stomach bulging? Might be a sign of internal parasite. When he stopped eating that's not a good sign. Try any meds? What does his swimming look like? Possibly get a few guppies to see if he wants to chase them. I had to syringe epsom salt in my fish once via mouth to get him through some constipation.

He will occasionally swim around but is spending most of his time either sitting on the sand or floating up near the top. He hasnt had a feed for around 3 weeks and doesnt even look at the food i put in. I dosed the tank with salt and have had the temp at 28 ( where as i usually keep it at 24 during the winter ). I just bought some Fluke and Tapeworm medication, no idea if this will help but its what i was recommended to try at the LFS. I've tried new pellets, peas, live mealworms, frozen bloodworm along with his normal pellets and hes taking no notice.

There is no sign of any bulging/bloating, stringy poop or flashing so its got me stumped. The only thing i can see is that his breathing is heavy these past few days, ive added an airstone and have a heap of surface movement. I bought another ammonia test kit which is showing zero, so that isnt the problem either. If anything he looks thin, but i guess thats understandable after not eating for so long.

The blue acara i added seems to be a little picky with food but is still eating/pooping/swimming normally, so im guessing its nothing in the water.

If he's looking thin good chance it might be an intestinal parasite. Maybe massage his belly around a little bit. I've gone some lengths to keep fish alive.

Honestly if he isn't dead by now, it's something on your part. Not trying to say anything mean but, I doubt your Oscar is suffering from a illness. Do big 75% water changes and use dechlorinater that has Aloe in it.

Also buy some "Prazipro" just google it. Treat the tank with this.
