i think i have a small problem on my 960 gallon

well i was messing around with the tank today, and i noticed something that im glad i caught before i added livestock, my filter pump uses 2" piping for intake its 1.25hp around 6000gph, i put my hand close to the intake and it suck my hand to it so hard i had to turn it off to release it, siince then i added a piece of screen over the intake pipe and held with a rubberband, however this isnt gonna work cause if a fish swims by it can still get stuck to the pipe and ultimatly would die from it, so does anyone have any ideas how to um i dont even know how to say what im asking, basically make something to go over the pipe, that would allow water to be sucked into it to be filtered but at the same time lower the suction incase something swimming by dosent get stuck to it

Can you slow down the pump? You can also buy a foam cover for the intake. I use one for my 110. I did not want the babies to get sucked into the filter so I added the foam on the intake. It works great!
 
i think i would use a wire screen, something like gutter guard, and make a screen for it

box it of in like a milk crate and meshing.
 
no i cant slow it down at all unless i were to add some ball valves but then eventually that would ruin the pump, there are some good ideas here, i like the milk crate idea i think that would work best but the ugliness of it lol, id like something that isnt an eyesore

that was just coming to me as i was writing this but i dunno how i would build one, what to make it out of, what adhesives how big how big of holes at the top etc etc
