 i am not good at sexing cichlids ,i have had these 2 jack d's for about a year now.they dont seem to be getting along, i want to know if in fact i have 2 male jds what should i do???They live in a 55 gallon tank just them and a pleco

I want both of them to live in peace and not have the bigger one chase the smaller one to the top of the tank.:D

Quick question:at what age or lenght do jds breed.... is it 2-8" inches????
I really made a mistake getting jds when i dont know much about them in its kinda sad because i have been in the hobby for quite some time now....

Anyhow thanks for listening to me chatter away i hope Jack Dempsey experts read this and give me some feedback:)

One more thing i was thinking my last resort would be trading one of my jds,if in fact they both are males, and getting a female.:naughty:

We cannot sex them by reading

Need pics :)

pics would really help, but an easy way to tell is females have a lot of blue on thier gill plates. it looks like some one painted it on there and males dont have nearly as much blue on the face but a more colorful body. but pics would be nice

alright i will try to get some pictures...

That pic looks like a male. If you get a female, and want them to breed REMOVE the pleco until you see a few fry! Plecos love caviar. My JDs didn't breed for a year until I found that out, moved him to another tank and BAM, eggs. Plecos eat at night, when the usually vigilant jacks are resting... Good luck. P.S. can't sex both fish w/o clear pics of BOTH fish.

WHAT
i am confused here?????

those pictures are of the same jd

I say both Males....I would get three females If I were to get a female...
