I think I need some help: Parasite problem I believe.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, let us know if it helps your problems. I think I will give this a try next time I hit the store will get some garlic, and soon some extract.

My fish seem to be doing better. I think I might do the treatment for another few days after I wrap up this round with a 25% change tomorrow afternoon. Just to be sure, as a couple of them are just NOW starting to act like they are pulling out of it. So, lets hope they are, but If I lose another, I think I will change the water out and do a round of parasite clear as a last resort. *fingers crossed*

my fish are all eating(gorging) and swimming and acting nicely. havent noticed any stringy white poop. i think my parasite problem is gone...knock on wood...

Alright, update time....
WELL, after swearing that my problem was all fixed after running a full treatment of the quick cure, I lost another fish... So, I finally found some parasite clear in town, so purchased all 4 boxes while they were in reach! lol...

I did the first tabs on sunday, then today (48 hours later) I did the next round after a 25% change. I plan on doing treatments on the next 3 tuesdays also. (5 total rounds)

Upon adding the treatment, I noticed the small bug like things that I have mentioned before, and lots of very small (32nd to 8th inch long) white worms. They look like gill flukes from images on the box & online, but, have never seen them ON the fish, just on the glass (they are small so could of missed them). Seems like the parasite clear is effecting them, hence why I can seem them when I add the tabs.

Should the parasite clear take care of this?

The remaining fish look very healthy, have huge appetites and act healthy. So, am a bit confused......

Alright... I am about done!

I finally got my tank to where after weeks, no death or problems! YAY! So, I made a classic aquaria mistake, I purchased new fish (because my tank was near empty) and added them without quarantining them.... I knew that was not a good idea, but they looked in perfect health, (I know, I know!).

Anyways, Needless to say, tail rot (I believe) popped up on one of the new ones and it got bad QUICK. The whole back fin is gone, so he can not swim right anymore. I am so sad to see him struggle. I instantly did the only things I thought might help, added a bit of salt (I have plants so not a lot) turned up the heat a bit and started Melafix.

Is there anything else I can do? Or just wait it out and hope they pull through. 3 of them have it now, the 2 are still able to swim in the group and eat, but the first one to get it is in bad shape. Now, half of his body is covered in the white-ish stuff that started on the tail fin.

Oh, forgot to say but I purchased 12 small silver dollars, they are in my 55g now, but am planing on moving them to the 150 once it is setup & they grow a bit more (& are healthy).

Also, my levels are all good, my nitrates are a bit higher than normal (about 10ppm).

I feel so bad for this, I know if I had set up a Q-Tank I would not be dealing with this in my full 55, but then again I am getting tired of not being able purchase fish with out them bringing problems. I know for a fact that every problem I have had, was put in my tank off of purchased items (plants, fish ect.) I am not saying I never do anything wrong but dang, I used to be able to buy fish, put them in and not have problems. But, that was awhile ago. :(

Anyways, if anyone has any pointers, let me know. Thanks in advance!

no ideas? :(

The salt/temp/melafix does not seem to be working. Already lost 2, 4 others have signs now.

there are lots of meds at lfs you can use that target finrot/tailrot... just go to the lfs and pick out the one you feel is best suited for your fishes symptoms. Try to do some online research about meds as well. Also I would reconsider where you purchase your fish from. I have personally used mela/prima a few times and it never really did anything with my fish so I dont use it, but other people sware by the stuff. You can try anything from eythromycin to a fungus guard treatment, which all say they are supposed to help tail/fin rot. I ve used eythromycin before but for a different problem, but it did help. You just gotta do a research on the different meds and go with what you feel is best.

On a side note I read somewhere someone told you to keep salt in you tank all the time, I would research it first... I personally wouldnt as any thing in the tank will eventually adapt to the salt level and it will loose its effect, but everyone has a differeing opinion on it, so I would do some research before making that decision.

Just wanted to post an update video.
As you can see, everyone is doing great!
And to the ones that I KNOW are going to bring up over stocking. A Number of the fish in here are going to be moved to my 150 as soon as it is running. So, relax ;)
