I think I want a snake....

If it's your first snake, you might not do so well with a tree boa. They've got a reputation for being completely nuts when it comes to handling.

Tree boa + first snake = bad idea

A ball python would be a much better choice. While they aren't hard to care for, they do require specific temperature and humidity, a when given that, they are very easy. If you don't give them that, then like other species you get a whole host of problems. Do your research.

I hope you are not planning to buy from that site! I just noticed it said bush babies.

Anyone know if there's an expo that will be coming close to the Michigan area?

I'm totally fine with having the better snake for starters first. I don't want to jump into something I can't handle... I appreciate your help guys!

I heard from a friend that he has a buddy who breeds snakes, and he'll talk to him about getting me a ball python, or boa constrictor. Anything I should look for when I go to pick it up?

I know how to spot mites, and I'd rather not have to deal with that, but I read a link to some mite remover in another post so if I need to I'll just purchase some of that as well.

and, will you guys help me name it? :)

Find out the locale of the boa constrictor and its gender. If it is a Columbian BCI, the male will be between 5-7' and females between 6'-8'. If it is a BCC of any kind, it going to be a lot bigger up to around 7'-10' for a female and 5'-8' for a male. Other locales of BCI are going to be generally smaller than the Columbians.

Check out Clay English's guide at http://www.redtailboas.com

Believe me, although a big boa sound cool... they are not. A lot of male boas are just right for people since they find the females to have too wide of a girth. Nothing wrong with a female, it just that a lot of females end up being abandoned!

For Ball? I will let the other members comment on them; I don't find them interesting at all.

riobravoreptiles.com for some amazingly beautiful locality boas and great info.

heres some pic i found online..it might help(if not there cool any ways)

Really... really... boring to watch them feed. It is a sloooooooooooooooooooow process.

Most of us snake keepers keep our specimens in tubs, not in display cages except in main areas of the house like the living room or for display at a show and other events. It easier for us to maintain them and we can have as many as possible in a small area by stacking them or putting them on shelves or a unit called a rack.

I dont really like racks, I meen it saves space but I like to have windows. Visions and Boaphiles are what I like, they look good and stack well. For babies rubbermaids are the way to go.
