If you are asking about the seperate feeding enclosure, most boid keepers don't do that. It seem to be more common among colubrid lovers.
We feed them in their cage.

I wouldn't do that... with most of them, it doesn't influence their length. Most of it is pure genetic. Some of the 12 footers in the wild only get to eat about 8 times a year throughout their entire life.
I would really, really look into this before deciding on a boid, especially if you havent got the confidence around handling them yet, if you haven't, one bite of a large boa could put you off before your ready to get started lol. But please don't just get a large snake to impress your mates, or for the shock factor, trust me, the responsibilty is much harder than that and the attention soon ends. If you want a snake it should be cause you GENERALLY like them and want to care for one nevermind showing it off. You do sound generally interested, just don't like the sound of the 'feeding off the attention people give the snake' thing. If thats what you want, get a large colubrid rather than a *potentially* dangerous snake, and yes, large boa constrictors can be. Other than this good look with finding the right snake for you and I hope you enjoy the time you have with it. 
p.s its not healthy to feed snakes alot less than your meant in order to stunt its growth, if your worried about the size get a smaller snake and tell your mates its a deadly python

Not ALL boids are big though.
You can get Honduran and Corn Island boa constrictors that won't get bigger than 3'. Geez Jessie! There are so many locales of Boa constrictors, and I hate how people always automatically assume they will get big as the 7-11' Boa constrictor constrictor. Who was assuming bloodyirish? I think it was you assuming that I was assuming they get 7-11 feet LMAO. Where did I say ALL boids get big? Sorry, I didn't LOL. All I said was, 'Large Boa's/snakes/boids'

The way you started off your passage make the whole passage sound you have a problem with boids:
Too many people jump down the colubrid route without actually considering not all boids are boa constrictors. To me, the above sentence of yours make it sound like the entire passage is anti-boids.
That is the great thing about boids though, you can get a Spotted Python that is exactly like a Corn Snake, save for the colour and slight increase in girth, for $30-$100 dollars to a Ball Python to a Boa constrictor of varying sizes, to a huge fatty Dumeril's all the way up to the giants.
You brought up good points though; the only thing that should be illustrated in your post is the sexual dimorphism between males and females. However I did bring up there are different locales of boa constrictors that get to be different sizes, and generally males are smaller than females.

Fair enough, the only reason I was on about the constrictor though mate was cause AFK was on about a red tailed boa last time I read :S lmao. Into boa's myself, I haven't had the confidence to get one until now because I know, whilst generally friendly and full of character (from what I've experienced) they can be a handful when large to handle, so trust me I wasn't trying to put him off, it still suprises me the strength an adult female royal can have when coiling, nevermind boas LOL! But yeah, hoping to get a male common boa at the weekend, my bf found a gorgeous one for me, it was a mixture of gaining experience in handling them and finding the right one, so will update and it may help AFK in his decision
