2 more things. Dont use the water condicioner ,avoid quemicals as much as you can. If your citys water has to much clorium use botled water insted;)
Second...REPTILE LEACHES:irked::grinno: Ive hadded whit them, thouse nasty turturing devices:screwy: Dont buy them. There´s a very small chance that your monitor will tolerate such a thing. Most lizards once putted on one of thouse will completley freak out because they fell them and cant free themselfes. That causes them to become very stressed and more untamed. Most lizards simply hate them. Also there´s leaches and leaches. Some are simply put dangerous. One time I took one of my iguanas to the vet for a chek rotine (X-rays and blood work since she was gravid) and the vet told me that in the same week a iguana came in with its back brocken because of a leache. That ig its still alive but has a lot of dificultys using its back legs. As it turns out the owner took her to a local park "for a walk" and then the ig saw a dog, completley freaks out, goes out of the owners control and tries to hide on a pipe but the leach its still tied to its waist line.:screwy: Dont use leaches or at least dont use them on your lizard untill you know him better. Lizards are not like dogs ,cats or ferrets, they will not follow you. The potencial hazzards of thaking your lizard outside far surpass the potencial beneficts of a "walk". If you want your lizard to benefict from sun ligth and fresh air build him a secure outdoor habitat. The only exepsion to this are thouse really large and dog tame lizards that maybe trained to use a leach. But there´s no garantee your lizard is going to turn that way. And ironicaly thouse big lizards dont need a leach since they are so tame;)

If you want to put something on a leash, get a dog. All crested geckos have "eyelashes". $110 still sounds expensive... I'd be tempted to look around, if that is overpriced, everything else might be also. How much was the mangrove?

I was only speculating on the leash aspect of the monitor. After all the info you just gave me I think a better idea would be to just carry him XD
I'm looking around a bit but everything is overpriced here. And cheaper herps from online cost the same due to shipping.
The mangrove was $430.

I know the store you are talking about... it's at West Edmonton Mall right?

Do not buy from that store. The monitors they get are sick as well; horribly stunted too. I considered offering a devalued deal for their Peachthroat and Mangrove, but figured rather than making an offer -- I need to get a proper cage. For a Mangrove, you are looking at a 8'x4'x8' cage as a local V. indicus keeper told me.

Crested geckos vary from $30 to $200 depending on the morph, and all the animals they get are 500% marked up. Mangroves, you can get for roughly $50 or so each.

Go to ERAS; Edmonton Reptiles and Amphibian Society and you will find a lot of local breeders. Crested gecko breeders include Allan of A&J Pets, Walter of Mice & Things, James of Sticky Toes and many others in Alberta.

Also there is no law in Edmonton that say you have to restrain your monitor. Although it is too dry (10%-30% humidity) to keep them outdoor in the summer, and temperature drop well below their suitable temperature (40F-60F) at night. In fact, herpetoculturists here tend to frown on taking animals outdoor.

A friend of mine used to have a Mangrove, and it is fiesty. Not something I would consider as a pet. Basicallly... spot-clean, feed, get out kind of deal. Holding one would leave him pretty scratched up.

The crested is from a different place but yah the mangrove is at the mall XD
I'll check out ERAS and hope I find something. The crestie I'm looking at is a light brown color.
