I think my blue aro is dying

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
this is what exactly happened to my jardini as well..it fed at night and the next next it couldnt move and just mysteriously died...my lfs owner told me this usually happens when they hit their head hard on the tank cover and that seemed to be the only thing possible.sorry for your loss mate

if it was the PH I would think it would've been a much quicker shock type of thing, not a down the road sudden change...

Definitely a high PH for a SA fish but I've heard of Aros living long lives in that water...

no one thinks it's the pH... honestly? Arowanas live in the Amazon basin. Waters in the Amazon basin tend to be acidic and very soft. Chances are, if the pH is high, the hardness is high and is interfering with osmotic regulation. Yes, they can adapt to it, but in the long run they will be susceptible to many more diseases than they would be in a proper pH of 6.5. Your fish may look fine, but they'd look even better in a tank with lower pH.
