what can i do to increase the chance it wont die

its in a 12 gal with a few creek darters...right now

Is your Bullhead still eating? Is he acting normal? I have found that MelaFix has worked great for me. It helps wounds heal quickly and fights against bacteria and stress. I'm not an expert on this I just know that it has worked for me. Chances are that if your fish was picked on and beat up this bad he is under a lot of stress and when they are under stress they are more prone to bacteria infections. So I would try MelaFix in the tank. Hopefully this helps.

I would separate this fish, in his solo med tank add salt and raise the temp to help the healing process. He needs to get away from the other cat ASAP though.

Use the Melafix only if it says use with scaleless fish is okay. Offer the foods the catfish would normally eat in small amounts until it eats. Provide shelter(cave, log on it's side for the catfish to go under to hide) Good Luck, you never want to lose a fish, but especially a bullhead with personality!!!

ok so i have it eatting now...

its still acting odd but seems to be doing better

any idea why a lace cat would do this?

the bull head was in a 55 gal

with

7ish inch bichir
6inch lace cat
5 inch rainbow shark
5inch USD black gold spotted cat
two blue Gouramis
4 2-3 inch Severums

just a side note i have a 40 gal breeder in the work for the bichir,USD cat and the bullhead

Lace catfish are usually kept with cichlids (I know a guy who kept his with a armored catfish and some red devils) and are tough aggressive african catfish.....is it the same size or bigger than your bullhead?
