I think my cycle is done?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Massive water changes leave you at the mercy of the quality of your tap water and in most cases is counter productive and a complete waste of time. What are the initial water perams before the water is introduced into the tank?
Assuming that the tap water is perfect is one of the biggest mistakes a lot of hobbiests make and one that causes a variaty of problems.
Recomending them...without knowing the condition of the tap water bieng used is making a possibly dangerious assumption.

The ammonia spike in fishless cycling is caused by the owner of the tank adding ammonia. How are you actually cycling the tank? It should only tank a week. Stresszyme is just dead bacteria & can actually hinder your cycle.

See: FISHLESS CYCLING

Hrm, I have actually been told by moderators on this site to use the bacteria. Anyway, I guess your way is the only way. Thanks for the help.

Did you read that article? The bacteria from an established tank is to "seed" your uncycled tank--gives it something to start with. Then you "feed" the bacteria with ammonia (the same chemical produced by fish waste), to get the bacteria to multiply & grow, until there is enough to support the waste a tank full of fish produce. Understand?

Please show me a link where a Mod recomends to use Stresszyme to help cycle your tank? The only product with live nitrifying bacteria is Bio-Spira. With it, you don't even have to do a cycle, it is instantly cycled. Just add fish.

All I see them recomending is "bottled bacteria". Go ahead & read the bottle. It is not live bacteria. It only makes the conditions of the tank more condusive for bacteria to grow. Live bacteria needs a constant supply of ammonia (food) to live or it will starve to death. The only way to suspend it is by refrigeration. If it is not a refrigerated bacteria product, it is not live bacteria. Simple!

So you didnt see me ask what they meant, and they said that it was the best product second only to prime or whatever? HRM, maybe your just trying hard to show that your way is the only way? Notice they didnt say that the product I used was not live, and would actually hurt my cycle? I think the guy actually said to put more in, as it wouldnt hurt?

Your tank, do what you wish. I've been in the biz for a very long time & I know what works & what is bunk. Waste all the $$$ you want...

well it looks to me that there was no added ammonia and I personally, add ammonia let nitrate sky rocket then 50% w/c. Add small amount of ammonia then test next day if ammonia is at 0 then 80% w/c but that is what I would do ??

After seeding with bacteria from an established tank, you have to add enough ammonia every day to test at 5ppm, until you have a nitrite spike. Then 1/2 the amount of ammonia you were using, until nitrite is 0. At that point you should have had a nitrate spike. Do an 80% WC & add fish. Should take ~10 days.

Right on
