This thread has really bummed me out. The reasons these groups don't want us to keep pets is because of people's "they're just fish" or "it's just a dog" view.
In all the planets and moons in the solar system this is the only one that hosts life. And so many different kinds of life. And you putting anything that's not human life on this level so far below us is a total lack of understanding of how rare intelligentl life is.
It is very, very unlikely that intelligent life will ever be discovered anywhere in the universe in the lifetime of man. Either by us finding something or us being found. This pedestal that man kind is on will be his down fall.
And I try to help. I post a lot on this forum. And I post a lot of other forums. And old coworkers of mine still text me for advice when they have a customer with a fish issue they don't know how to solve.
Every fish I own was a donation to a store. Or, in the case of my convict, was born at the store.
I honestly expected a lot more compassion from this group of people. Instead there is people telling me that they would kill my loved ones in exchange for theirs. What a stupid hypothetical situation. And it's completely asinine to bring something like that up. I probably would save your kid. Because I try always to help people at my expense. Bit you can bet your ass I'd try to save both. I don't think you'd try to save both for me. But for some of you to say "I would kill your dog if you chose your dog" is completely crazy. I've built a connection with my dog, not with some random kid. What makes your kid so freaken important to me? Because I can give you an endless list of reasons my dog is so important to me. And for the record I don't value the life of your child more than my dog because my dog's life is more valuable to me. I would be helping you out the kindness of my heart. And I feel like the people here would not help someone catch their dog that came off the leash and was running towards the street. Or, more so, would help someone who's dog was in the middle of the street.
I think I need a mfk break. I felt good about this site. But now I don't. There is nothing natural about what we do. And comparison to nature is a joke. Tradition is no reason to not change something. Plenty of history is a good example of that. And valuing the life of my loved ones over yours doesn't make me crazy. It's makes me you.
