Licenses don't prove anything except that a governing body can profit from something that you might desire to do! That imho is all that they have for the most part ever done. If licensing worked, there wouldn't be malpractice lawsuits against doctors, building contractors, or any other "licensed" individual or company taking shortcuts and circumventing regulations already in place to curb such illegal activity,
If you think licensing will fix it; you've got your head up your butt!
Consider the marriage license! Failure after failure after failure... and success stories too! But that has absolutely NOTHING to do with a license!
The laws are already on the books for prosecuting those cruel to animals. Licenses don't really change anything. What does a license prove that a diploma or certification of training or better business report already not do?

Granted... there are exceptions and if you dig around enough you will find them.
Prime example...
circa 1965-66ish, the deer in Pennsylvania were starving so badly in mid winter that they came into town! and would eat from our bare hands.
Pa enacted laws directing huge percentages of hunting license fees to go directly to wildlife management, in particular for the species permitted tobe hunted by the sale of THAT license.
The whitetail population in Pa made a huge comeback and is one of the strongest in the nation. 350 to 400 lb deer not uncommon now. State record last I knew is 51 points! HUGE COMEBACK!!!
But note: that relied on the government properly administering the program... how often does that happen?

20 centt or 2000$ fish im still saying that a human especially a child has to be more valuable.


Wild bills original comments about govt or anyone else for that matter telling us how to keep fish is a bit scary. For those that have been supporting this notion and are in the animals are better than humans camp.... How does it get done. None of you actually made a good point on how some govt agency has the right to come in your home and tell you how to raise fish

Too add to the point you guys want people to go out and get a license and some form of education to keep fish (im not against some fo of educational material on the hobby) BUT look at how many people should never be allowed to have kids... mistreat/abuse them, have more kids than they can care for and are left neglected. Im supposed to believe that our society should put more energy into proper fish care than proper child care...

Somethings are important and noble...but im sure we can come up with allot of things that should be fixed other than this hobby

Bill started this thread shortly after some folks went a bit sideways over Kittie Kat's smoking around fish tanks topic. That was the fuel for this offshoot discussion, to which suddenly people are discussing cats, dogs, and apparently now deer. lol


The tetra comment stuck a nerve with me because this IS a fish forum, and we are for the most part here to discuss FISH. Not the love of a gerbil, and how a gerbils life is just as important as yours, or mine. If one wants to get up on a soapbox and proclaim that ALL life is equally important, then you should be just as willing to accept that a 20 cent tetra is just as valuable as you are. If not, please sit down and shut the hell up.

I think its just a lil disheartening that someone could value a fish the same as a human. Infact o really dont believe the people that stated that actually believe it themselves...more of just throwing fuel on the fire to get a rise out of others

I don't think he is angry. It seems people are ignoring his point that some on here are trying to say some animals<insert animal> are worth more the other animals. Which means they are hypocrites.
