Hello; There are usually hundreds of threads going. Pick a few others to read. Outside the lounge they are usually about some aspect of the hobby.
No Nathan not all of the threads get this heated but this is a very touchy subject. Any time something about tank size or certain species of fish come up it can get interesting.
Back to my point that no matter how big the industry these ARA's find a way in. Let us look at the cosmetic and pharmacutical industry they have boughed down and may no longer do animal testing. With regards to the oil company and the ducks they broke the law fine. My concern is why did green peace take them to court not the government. The SPCA or Humane Society in most places enforce the animal protection act. Both of these groups are animal rights groups. Our hobby is far from safe here in North America and in Europe. In fact in England they have the right to come into your house if you have fish and check the water parameters and tank size. PETA put that article out there which may sound ok now but it will get tougher and tougher to meet the standards they consider ok.
I have personally witnessed all of these things happen to our private zoo. We had people tell us all the time don't worry these groups won't win the goverment is not that stupid wrong answer. Every report these groups wrote the officials took as gospil truth. Then they would come and tell us every thing we had to change. Some times these reports would be written just after a government inspection said every thing was fine. If we don't have to worry about our hobby in our life time I fear then we don't have long to live.

Thread may have gottem heated at some points but really didnt get out of control. This can happen on any type of forum wether it be fish or stamp collecting. I have no hard feeling towards anyone i disagreed with and hope they dont have any towards me

Hello; I took the liberty to highlight some passages that stand out to me. I am old, having my fiftieth (50) high school reunion this month, so maybe not in my lifetime. I would not bet on it however.

My neighbors and very good friends are Buddhists great people, though they do not believe in harming an animal/insect/fish ect for no reason, they wont come fishing with us when we go catch/release but will if we are eating the fish. They do not consider animals and humans to be equel in terms of value have no issues eating animal meat. Its more of a respect for all life which i dont disagree with
