i thought flushing sand with a hose from the bottom of the bucket until water was crystal clear would get all the salt out of it, and i put 6 cups of sand into my 30 gal and while my hands dried they felt sticky... you know, the same feeling you get when you just been in SALT WATER! ****!

igot my convict, red devil, and 2 africans in there along with my o'opu, and 4 plecos...

are they gonna die?

what a piece of crap!! i smelled AND tasted the sand water before i put it in and it wasnt salty!!! but it feels salty and sticks to and dries up my skin like its salty wtf!!!

how much salt?i dont get the post sorry lol

um as much salt that comes with beach sand minus the salt that woulda been removed while sticking a hose in the bucket full of sand and flushing it for an hour until the water was clear? that much. sry idno.

and i given up salt water aquariums so i dont have my salinity equipment anymore... man i feel dumb. i just dont want my fishes gills and lungs to explode!

Im also confused....did you take sand from the ocean or something?

well if you didnt get the sand from the ocean or if you evaporated it so the salt was removed then you shouldnt have any salt water in it.

im sorry man honeslty i dont get it lmao all i understnad is that you dropeed sand in your tank, if you droped abit its not deadly if you droped alot than maybe. just keep doing water changes and all will be good

the sand was from kailua beach. on shore. the most dry sand i could get on land... never the less it was from the ocean at one point in time. does that count as being from the ocean? i didnt get wet sand near the shore break, i got it a few feet up where it was dry

1) ok, i got sand from the beach.

2) i washed it to the best of my ability

3) thinking it was not salty anymore (via taste and smell test) i poured a considerable amount of it into my tank.

4) as my hands dried they felt sticky, the feeling that usually comes from salt water. meaning there might have been salt still in the sand which i had just dumped into my tank of freshwater cichlids.

5) im scared.

okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk now i get it bro. do water changes and it will be alright.do maybe 50% water change the salt will eventually go away
