If youre gearing up and thinking a turtle might be the choice for you, do some research on the species that were mentioned here. In AZ you have a lot of choices of North American species that can survive year round in your climate. Granted you cant associate with a turtle as much as you would with a beardie in terms of handling and such. These are all factors you should look into before you reach a decision.

Uromastyx are more or less beardie sized, and ackies are slightly larger than that.....but still not typical monitor sized.[/quote]

Sorry mabye I should be more specific. What I meant was "Do different species get along okay?" but thanx.

Your probably right, I did do a lot of research on them sometime last year, but I should do some re-research. It's just... call me weird but I always loved bulky creatures :) So out of all herps, turtles just came out on top. So you don't think I can carry a turtle around any more than a larger lizard, well what I was really looking for was something I could just sit and chill out:chillpill: with. The only down side to a turtle is a lot of people say there real hard to care for. Thanx

Okay thanx for telling me that, I feel kind of stupid that I didn't bother to look up their size:duh: Normaly when ever I want to learn something about an animal, the first thing I do is jump on my computer or go to the library. And thanx again:)

It sounds like you're wanting something you can interact with, so I'd go down the lizard route. Beardies, Uros, Chinese Water Dragons, that kind of thing.

Turtles are a lot of work, you should have 10 gallons of water for every inch, so a Red Eared Slider could need a 120G tank. I appreciate that you are flexible on enclosure size, but that's a massive water change each week.

Alright I have exeppted the fact that nothing is touchable, so I don't care if I can hold it or not. How about a sulcata tortoise, are they cool?

Whoa whoa whoa....why the change of tune? We already suggested a number of lizards that are easy to handle and interact with. Where did this "nothing is touchable" mentality come from?

To answer your question, whether or not sulcatas are "cool" depends on the person you ask. I'm not a big turtle fan, so I think they're blah. But some may think they're totally awesome.

One thing is that they get HUGE. In fact, they're the third largest tortoise species in the world. Males can get a shell length of 24" and weight around 200 lbs. Needless to say, they need a lot of space.

Nothings wrong:), I just say things in a different way, I really meant was that I don't care if I can hold it or not. So I don't need to hold it, thats what a ferret is for. :D I just fine with sitting and watching. Also I appreciate all the list of lizards that you guys gave me. :) But I have a high possibility that I'm going with the turtle.

And the reason I asked about tortoise is well they don't need to swim, they can live outside were I live, they are bulky like I said earlier, and I think their cool they look like a huge rock. :D So...
