So am I crazy thinking I can replicate the work of Takashi Amano and create one of his amazing aqua forests? This idea has been in my head for months now and I've been itching to give it a shot.

Has anybody here tried to set up somethign similar? Results? I looked through this forum but I havent seen anything close. How hard would this be? Is it even humanly possible?

Also, how do I find out what plants he uses, like the ground cover? Its beautiful. I know, CO2, lighting, what else? Help me out here!

Here's some of my favorites from his gallery. I really like his setups that look like mountain landscapes with some simple groundcover and rockwork. STUNNING!

THats cool, like the the first piture....i would set up one...but i have no time to keep up with it.

The first picture is very cool but it would look better with several of my swamp trees growing in it! Plants aren't that difficult it's just that you have to be careful of what fish you keep and things like lighting, substrate, and plan the type plants you want. Planning is what it's all about, a wet green thumb doesn't hurt either.

i read all his articals in tfh and plan on buying his books when i can.... i want to give it a shot one day... alot of patience and time go into a set up like his.... anybody can do it just keep the hammer at bay when you get frustrated..

yeah man i was reading up on the ground cover that he uses, glossostigma, and it looks like an absolute pain to deal with. this is what i found. sounds like id wanna take the tank and throw it out the window! there's gotta be some easier ground cover to work with :nilly:

"Glossostigma elatinoides is one of the smallest foreground plant available to a hobbyist. It was popularized by Takashi Amano in the 1980s, when he created breathtaking aquascape with low-growing carpets of Glosso.

High light (>3wpg) will make growth compact and make this plant stay low, forming a fast carpet easily. Otherwise it grows upright in search of light. CO2 is also necessary for it to thrive.

When planting, patience is require as it is very tiny. Plant each plantlet deep into the substrate until only the leaves are visible. They will form dense carpets if conditions are met."

what is the plant on the tree??? i would love to just duplicate that..... one day is all i tell myself....

Here's a cool one of takiashi amano. If you could replicate it, that'd be pretty sweet...

yeah that one is beautiful! looks like a park with a little trail. i love how he attaches the ferns/moss to driftwood. personally i think the hardest part of this would be to plant the ground cover as that is what i REALLY want.

i love the "lawn" effect but you have to plant each tiny little plant individually. might have to go into tweaker-mode to get this done.

i was thinking of starting off with a 55g but i think that might be too big. what do you guys think? maybe a 30g?

i would go breeder tank.... 50 breeder be nice 36x18x18... would allow for better aqua scaping
