I WANT an Aqua Forest! Am I crazy???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that was a good article thx! im new to this whole planted tank this so any help is great, and id love to see some older pics of your tank if you have any.

i think the way to go might be with HC as i dont want the glosso to start growing upwards. does the HC need frequent trimming/pruning or does it stay fairly low the ground?

also, with substrates, what do you use? is it necessary to get the fancy ADA stuff or are there cheaper alternatives?

thx!

i have not had to trim mine and it stays low. (this was with a HO T5 light) it will grow up toward the light if there is not enough light but i think it requires less light then glosso and less strict fertz so it maybe a little easier but not one hundred percent sure. and the pictures will have to wait tell i get home there still on the camera been to lazy to transfer them.

Hemianthus will grow tall just like glosso. Glosso will tend to stay closer to the substrate though.

Those tanks are just breathtaking! So is this plant I have in my tank HC? And if so I'd imagine that it won't form too good a carpet in the sand. If I were to say lay down a bed of small 1/2-1 pea sized gravel where I wanted the carpet would that help. I'm looking to do a carpet of some type in the foreground of my tank.

I've already noticed quite a bit of growth in the last couple of days and today I changed my tank around a bit (pics in another thread later) and when I picked up the plant (attached to a small rock) I noticed they were now reaching over a half inch more off the rock then the day I bought it. (3-4 days ago)

I'm using a 34" 96w 10,000K PC and a standard 20w life glow flourecsent, but I'm getting ready to pick up a 36" dual 54w T5-HO, then another probably a few weeks later using 6700K lifeglo bulbs.

looks like a neat little plant! i couldnt tell you what it is though. what if you split it up, do you think you could achieve a carpet look that way? got any full tank shots?

which one of these two would you recommend to a beginner?

pics, sorry the glass is a little dirty. I did a w/c before work this morning and didn't have a chance to clean it. I bought that little HC (I think) from the LFS I work nights at. We got 4 in that day but by the time it was time to get off this was the last one left :irked: I wanted all of them. Guess I'll have to wait for the next shipment.

Far from done yet. Still have to get some Java Moss and get that carpet going. Probably some Swords and dwarf hair grass too.
