I WANT an Aqua Forest! Am I crazy???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow he does some amazing work

I believe when it comes to landscaping each of us has a unique way of landscaping. Of coarse some do a better job than others:ROFL: My point is this.... try it! If you have the time and energy to do it then go for it. No one said you have to do it exactly as this guy has done it. Change it up...use your imagination I bet you could come up with a pretty cool looking tank. Good luck!! Post your tank when you done.

Not everyone can plant like takashi amano, as only part of the tank comes from the equipment/plants. Much of it also comes from the clipping/pruning of plants, proper placement, and knowledge of proper plant nutrient balancing. Even very experienced vetrans of the plant world find replicating one of Amano's tanks difficult. I have all four of his books, and even with the basic info of his setups, replication is very difficult.

man thanks for the encouraging words wyldfya! ha jk. yeah takashi's work is pretty much one of a kind and i know im dreaming if i think i can replicate that. but maybe if i can get close to the look, id be happy.

basically, i want to keep it simple with some low growing ground cover and rockwork, sort of like the tanks i posted up. can you recommend an easy to grow ground cover?

and masone that guys tanks are amazing too! awesome

for a foreground plant there are two main types that i have heard alot of people use in those iwagumi style tanks one is glosso like you said the other is HC but im not sure what one is easier i have read some people think glosso is way easier to grow and those people seem to not be able to do HC and i have heard the reverse as well so it may take some trial and error to be sure i have HC growing in my tank and its doing good but i have never tried glosso. hope that helps atleast a little

cool thanks for the info! got any pics of your tank? it says HC is slow growing, is it really that slow? looks tiny too, must be hard to plant that stuff!

Not Amano. Filipe Oliviera did that one for one of the AGA comps. check out his blog for more scapes.

Here is another one he did, similar style.

That is very cool use of bogwood and moss, I honestly never thought of that. I have grown swamp tree in some of my aquariums over the years, It's kinda difficult, you have to allow for the tops of the trees to be above water and then allow for 10 to 12 inches above the tree tops for the light. My best ones were in a greenhouse with natural light. The effect of the tree trunks and mats of growing roots above the sand is really unique. Bald cypress, water tupelo, swamp apple, and mangroves are the best I've found so far but I have been told that dawn redwood will also grow like this.

well i have a green water problem right now :nilly: so no pictures maybe i have an older one i can put up when i get home. but it grows decently fast it grows fast enough to cover everything but not so fast it takes over and invades the hole tank (i heard glosso can do this). planting does suck but if you have tweezers its not to bad plant it just like glosso in a grid and it will fill in fast. an i planted mine in small (pea size) bunches and it grew in good.

* the link is to a site about glosso im sure you know most of what is being said but it has a few good pictures on the best way to plant it thats the same way i planted my hc
