In the fish section LOL
This question always comes up time after time. And people keep these fish in 125 gallon tanks.....

What is the minamum tank size for an rtc

and what is the min. for a tsn

HOw long could these fish be kept in these size tanks

90 gallon
125 gallon
150 gallon
180 gallon
220 gallon

Dont flame me i dont have one of these species but just for everones sake i posted this......

These things are somewhat matter of opinion, but the fish must have adequate swimming space, be able to turn around, and have enough water and filtration to keep the bioload under control.

so techniqally u are saying i, and i am not going to dont worry could keep a rtc in a 220 for life with good water condtions a bare bottom for swimming space and massive filtration to handle the waste and bio load?

My answer would be no. An RTC reaches 6 feet. Therefore you would need a tank that is 12 feet long and six feet deep minimum, just so the fish can swim and turn around. Even with that size, the bioload would be high.

RTC: 130cm in the wild. prolly 100cm in aquarium
TSN: 100cm in the wild. prolly 90cm in aquarium

Most important: Filtration and very good water condition.
Ofc it should be able to turn in the tank! a circular pond/tank is the most ultimate tank it can get.

RTC in a to small tank will stunt its growth a bit but it will still outgrow the tank. Stunting is very unhuman and it suffers a risk of dieing in the progress.
RTC & TSN are known for breaking through the aquariumglass when they get into too small tanks, due to nervousity.

Minimum tank size for RTC, TSN and most other big catfish:
Lenght:300cm
Width: 300cm
Height: 50-70cm
(about 4500L)

In a circular pond the minum dimension for 2 fully grown RTC/TSN should be something like this:
300x60cm
(4200L)
This is for about 2 fully grown RTC/TSN. It is still small but enough, with good water conditions they will live there for a great bunch of time :)

Cats like rtc, tsn, nigers etc shouldnt even be kept in a tank.

How can anyone say there is a min size for an animal to live in. Plus fish grow at differnt rates according to food, water etc. RTC and TSNs will max out at 3-4' in peoples care. But are often stunted by bad water and a **** diet.

So to conclude, even a young 2 foot rtc/ tsn shouldnt be in a 6x3x3.

According to this months Catfish Corner in TFH a recent publication says there are 3117 different species of catfish. With so many to choose from why on earth would anyone feel the need to try and house some of the largest available in the hobby? TSN, RTC, ripsaw cats, iridecent sharks, channel catfish...5 of the most popular and saught after catfish in the hobby, all grow to over 3' in length. Five out of 3117...find a different species and leave the ones that belong in the wild alone.

There's always different angels to look at it, can't say that I agree with you but cant say that I don't either. But still, if you can give it a good home you should keep them, you can tell its happyness from watching them and if the fish tells me that it's happy that's all I need to be possitive to the RTC-aquarium idea.

Why keep massive fish causing the market to be flooded with them and muppets buying them. Most die or lead an awful life.

And tuda, they dont know any different so how do they know what a good life is, if you beat and abuse a cat/ dog its gonna have happy moments where its running around looking happy. Fish have nothing to do in a tank, suprised they dont die of bordem.
